Wow.. and cobalt SS SC is (from the other thread) 22K US? so for less than the Cobalt SS SC (without LSD) you can get the SI with the Navi and summer tires? The rumors were that the Si was gonna be a hell of deal but that's crazy..
I wonder what the Canadian pricing will be like (it's never just a straight currecy conversion of what they cost in the US)... I'm thinking mid to high 20's CAD which is insane considering that the premium RSX is around 27K.
I like it alot, but im really not feeling the dash set-up. Maybe itll grow on me.

Sounds about right to me. The best time I've seen for the Civic Si is 15.0, while the SS S/C runs consistant mid 14's.
So the Si may be slightly cheaper, but its outperformed by the Cobalt in acceleration as well as handling.

also the honda has less torque than my grandmom so that things 60's(foot) probally are garbage so i wonder if a stock jbody 2.4 could take it off the line than shut down and claim the win fast lol

Awesome prices! Chances are the value will hold better than the Cobalt SS/SC also.
Honestly
Who cares what it will run in a straight line? Whupeddedo..... The Si was designed for the curves and commuting. If a prospective buyer wanted to go fast in a straight-line, then they would probably buy a late 60 to early 70s muscle car.
You guys crack me up everytime I see a post about the Cobalt being faster in the quarter (or whatever it might be). The Cobalt isn't the end all. GM is losing the battle... face it. The Cobalt was supposed save the company. I don't see any staggering sales number yet. This is not be harsh ... it is just the truth.
The prices on the Si rock; especially considering it is a better car than the RSX-S and it is $4k cheaper. There are many things to consider when purchasing a car and a little more torque will lose everyday compared to reliability, resale, and all-around engineering (in my book).

The Red Tag price of the Cobalt SS is $21k. So for about $1000 more you get +8hp, +61lb-ft torque, and only 100lbs more. The Cobalt should heartily smoke the Civic.

I'm doubtful buyers of Honda Civic Si's will walk out the door under $22,000.00. I wouldnt be surprised if you'll see some dealers asking $25,000.00! I like the new styling of the Civic Si, but I doubt that it will be a big seller for Honda. Too radical in styling and a small interior next to its direct competitors. The Civic Si should have been more Acura RSX sized. Of course, it probably looks like a limo in size next to a Lotus Elise. In any case, I like the styling, just have a funny feeling Joe Public will look at the price tag and figure he (or she) can afford a few more dollars for an Acura RSX and not have to explain to common folk, no its not a new hybrid from Honda.

after seen those prices im really starting to consider one of those.

I dig the new Si, and that is pretty good pricing!
Frontend of those cars is soo sexy, already saw a modded one on the newstand...JDM'd out of course
.
awesome price. with less out of the box horsepower than the SS i'd expect it to be cheaper. but that's just a great price for that car and all it has to offer. but i agree they will never leave honda lots for that price or anywhere near.
and the comment that the Cobalt was to save GM, but failed. the only really true test to that comment is that just before GM was going to release the Cobalt they said it will never be offered with any rebate...this will be the car to start 86'ing the rebate trend. The finally buckled and at the end of the employee discount program finally added the cobalts. They now are a part of the red tag event and there is already talk of 2006 incentives. The Cobalt is the new Cavalier plain and simple. the only car that will turn into a huge hit for GM and possibly change minds is the new Solstice and Sky. These are the cars GM hoped the Cobalt would be.

I totally agree! A new muscle car might be their savior, as well (if it is executed properly). Between the UAW, EPA and bean counters; it will likely be a disaster.

If dealers do mark-up, it will only be for a few months (until the new-ness wears off). I highly doubt they mark-up $5k (maybe $1-1.5k) . The styling is not radical. Have you looked at the Accord, TSX, TL, or S2000. I guess not. They all share styling cues. Also, I guess you didn't know but the Civic Si is the replacement for the RSX-S. Honda America is shifting the sporty youngster back to the Honda label. The RSX will no longer be produced after this year. The entry level Acura will become a 2-door coupe priced up near $30k (out of the reach of most as entry-level). So you will be looking at a TSX or the new "2-door" as a entry level in Acura. The Si will be bargain basement comparatively. Now if you are buying used then this whole discussion is irrelevant, but we are talking new off-the-lot cars.
Good day.
Take care.

Why people even still even compare the already dated Cobalt to the new Civic is beyond me...

It's idiots like you that keep GM in business...
As long as there are idiots, there will be GM...

Enough said.
that much eh? thats pretty good for a 2.0L.
torque is great for pulling trailers! it can almost pull as much trailers as a j-body now!!
only 11lb-ft less than a cavy. good thing that the extra 57hp is meaningless!!
