You can tell from the picture it isn't a turbo, if you know what to look for.

My friend has a 93-- looks just like it..
We're going to swap in the 3.0 V6 from a camry this winter...

u do know that the v6 camry is FWD? and the mr2 is RWD correct?
why would you do that swap anyways? the mr2 turbo with the stock turbo puts out what 200hp? and the camry puts out like 185?
stupid swap

The engine is in the back of the car dummington... It will be RWD.
The car is not turbo & the engine is beat anyways...
I don't know why the fark he's doing it really- but Im pretty sure he has his reasons.. He's a mechanic for a dealership and has been working on cars for years...
The car will definately haul ass when its done.. I beleive he's going to turbo or S/C the 3.0.
okay, so why not rebuild the motor, and throw a stock turbo on it?
get faster times...and much more potential out of a turbo then a 3.0 all motor...
and yes i know that the mr2 is a RWD car...but do you know the amount of work it will be to put a 3.0 motor in a mr2? the motor thats in it now, and how its set up is such a hassle AS IS...
tell him to pull the motor, rebuild it...much less work, faster times, and def more of a reliable motor...
the v6 camry's are junk..always have been always will be...
and btw i work at a dealership also....does that make me special? just because you work around cars, doesnt mean you know what your doing...

Apparently not !!! Ha Ha HA !
I'll be sure to run your suggestions past him, afterall- you work around cars and you know everything about MR2's.
so, he works around cars and that makes him know it too?
i used to own a mr2 non turbo, and i know how much of a hassle they are..
but the thing for for 200k+ miles...

if i were him, i'd go with a 4a series motor - they're lighter, fit better, and were in the series of motors that came in that car. hell, he could fit a 4agze in there, WITH a supercharger, for less than it would cost to do a V6 swap.
don't like me?
tell me what you think of me in chat
I wouldn't boost a 5sfe.
a 3SGT-E (turbo) is an easy swap, and it's not that expensive. An NA (JDM) only 3sge is pretty cheap (light and good on gas), has 165hp too.
If you put a V6 in the rear it will kill the handling, you will push through corners and won't go anywhere in the snow.

yes that also..
the 3sgte is also a swap to consider...but the motor is probably going to hard to find, meaning expensive...
