girlfriends Jeep GC doesnt always start in park. It had a tranny swap and now it sometimes shes has to put it into neutral to get it to start.
My truck had this problem with the remote start going into disable mode after three failed attempts. But the thing is she didnt get a remote start till after this problem started. after talking to some people they told me it is common on jeeps after a swap. So now she cant use her remote start sometimes. Cause she would have to be in the jeep to shift it into neutral to start it.
First of all can anyone tell me what i can do to fix this problem.
Or is there any way i can disable that switch that keeps it from starting if its not in park?
thanks
wire it tothe neutral safety instead of the park safety
huh?
Can the car normally be started in either park or neautral?
Do i have to drop the tranny to get to the wires or can i just takes the plastic cover off the top of the shifter housing inside the car...and rewire it?
Yes, any automatic can be started in either Park or Neutral, it's done that way in case the vehicle stalls while driving.
Yella02-I promise I will return to you in one piece and this will stay up until I am safely home
Ok....well either way it starts 80% of the time in park. But it always seems its the coldest morning when she really wants it that it wont @!#$ start in park lol.
So does anyone know how hard it is to get to the switch. I guess during swaps its really easy to make the connection loose or what not.
my dodge van did the same thing. i had to replace a little "neutral switch" on the transmission itself. its like changing a spark plug basically. then it was all good from there.
yeah i read about that, but heard it was very expensive to replace so to try and trouble shoot the wires and switch first. However sence there was a transmission swap done and the problem occured after that im inclinded to think its just a loose wire somewhere
that switch isnt that expensive at all, i dont recall the price, but it wasnt anything extremely exspensive, i think under $20. and it is litterally like changing a spark plug. a little tranny fluid will come out so make sure you pick up an extra quart or two (depending on what year your jeep/tranny is, make sure you get fluid that is compatable to the fluid type depicted on your dipstick typically it is like a mopar ATF+3 or something like that)
