You'll find more than a few people who post on this site have Cobalts. Do a search and you should be able to find them. Its not a J-body, the J-body is dead and ended with the last Sunfires and Cavaliers. Not sure what body it is but it is a Delta platform if memory serves me right (there is a difference). Go on Cobalt forums and ask around for their strengths and weaknesses. On top of that, make sure this gets moved to "Other Cars."

do a search in the other cars forum, and you'll find a lot of people already own them. Oh and no it's not a J-body.

j-body means j-body platform, or what the car sits on. Cobalt sits on a newly designed DELTA platform. SO is it a delta body then?

Thanks man, I was unclear on that part but I knew the Cobalt wasn't a J-body.

not a j-body and really a fun car. has a very europian feel to it. Guess that's because it's based on the German Opel astra.

Ive owned my cobalt for about 4 days now and man i love it. I have the base model 5 speed and with the Eco man that thing is a blast to drive. I especially love the way the steering wheel feels.

False, it is new to N-America only since 2003.

EvolGTi wrote:not a j-body and really a fun car. has a very europian feel to it. Guess that's because it's based on the German Opel astra.

Fact and to continue on that respect. This platform is loosely based on the Opel Astra in which it has seen duty all over the world since 1991. Opel updated the chassis in 1998 for the Astra and updated it again for 2003 for Astra, Ion, Cobalt. By this time, GM decided to label it with Greek alphabet: Delta.
To put it in perspective it is like the 1st,2nd,3rd Gens of the J-body.

Its known around here as a "Delta Platform" or "Delta Chassis" or even "Delta Body"
but as I have said for as long as I've been comeing here G.M. refers to it as an "A" body
car. But seeing how most are content in calling it this "Delta" name they don't care that its incorrect. Call it "Delta" if it makes you happy but its correct "BODY" type name is
"A" body.

I have an 05 Coby LS. Great little ride, I love it. Looks nice, rides nice, optional Pioneer system is bomb, fit and finish is phenomonal for a GM economy product, and for not being a performance car, it has plenty of juice from the 2.2 Eco.

Check out Cobaltss.net for plenty of info on all Coby models.

Except Astra looks beter, and comes with the European Ecotec motor (found in north america in Suzuki Reno/Forenza as well as older Daewoos and Isuzus), factory turbocharged producing 240bhp.

Top speed of 152mph and not-to-60 in 6.2s This is currently the fastest hot hatch in europe, beating brand spanking new VW Golf V 2.0 Turbo. Also comes with a nick name of "SRT-4 beater".

As usually, we end up getting all the GM north america crap

I've said the same too.

Also the (Opel/Saab) Ecopower engine is also found on older Saab 9-3 and current Saab 9-5 too.

You smell that?

smells like someone got Ownt!

and sounds like someone is making things up. To sound like they know something nobody else does. Sorry nobody wants to use your "a-body" name you made up instead of Delta...guess nobody wants to sound like an "A-hole" when they call the Delta Chassis Cobalt the wrong thing.

Another idiotic and inaccurate post made by none other than Mr. DumbassGT. Give it up already, everyones sick of hearing your BS.

First of all, The Cobalt shares its Delta platform directly with the new Opel Astra from Europe. Its not "loosely based on it" as moron said.

2. No, the platform hasn't "been in service since 1991" like retard said. That may have been when the original Delta chassis was created, but its been completely redesigned at least three times since then. Saying that is like saying the Corvette has been using the same chassis since 1953 because its been called the Y-Body all along. Dumb.

3. Don't listen to GGT. He knows the truth, but he likes to make things up to suite his opinion and make the Cobalt look bad. Its widely known around here that he hates the Cobalt with a passion, so anything he says should probably just be completely disregarded.
