Dexcool Coolant issues (3100)
Sunday, November 20, 2005 6:19 AM
We wanted to get our coolant flushed on nmy wifes 3100 and it looks like mud in there. We have not changed the coolant or anything. GM says we need a flush and another place says there may be something wrong because it you flush it the mud like stuff will clog the lines. They said that there may be another issue here may be something leaking into the coolant. Can someone help me. Plan on carrying it to the dealer for them to check it out we have extended warranty but i know a coolant flush is not a warrantied item but i want to get some feedback.

Meh... Get it flushed at the other place unless the dealer is giving a price break.

The 3100's and 3400's, the only problem I've heard of is the lower intake manifold gasket leaking (which is a monster PITA), but nothing about the coolant.

I've had my coolant flushed, and never had a problem with anyone griping.

I also have to get my Transmission fluid flushed, thanks for reminding me.

Depends on the mileage...

I'd flush it, personally, but you're going to want to torque down the manifold bolts to like 35ft/lbs or so, factory spec is about 17 IIRC.

Yea.. Been there had the gasket replaced, spensive, i think i got that a new water pump, and a few other things for a grand total of 1100 bucks.

I had mine flushed numerous times, and it was one of the few things on my cutlass, what when i did it, didnt cause any problems.

Just had it flushed and it seemed to be ok. They said non of the muck got in the system, which was good because it did not get into the heater core which would have been a problem. Thank i was a little worried. They actually took out the reservoir and cleaned that seperately so that non of the build up would get in the system. They wanted to know if any green stuff got mixed in with it because that usually what happens to cause that. I have only topped off with Dex Cool.
