Im getting one for free, if its still there. its been sitting in a feild for about 2 years. My manager had this car for a while, it was handed down by her grandfather who was the original owner. she said that the title said it was a GT, it has a 318(?) needs new heads and it might have frame rot on it. also that it DOES have the gt center console and some type of shifter thats worth a little under a grand.
i said hell its free, i might as well take it. im going to take a look at it this sunday and post pictures. the only thing thats going to cost me is a tow back to jersey but i think its worth it. i want to keep it close to original but what companys make parts for this old mopar that needs a little tlc?

If its been in a field for 2 years that car is prob. gonna need to be restored completly. You might as well part it out and put teh money in ur car.

2 years in a field? Pass that thing is nothing but trouble been there done that never again!
But good luck with it if you do get it.

^ 2 years is nothing people have restored cars that sat in feilds for 50 years.
-Borsty
Yes but cars in a field for 50 years would be worth restoring. A 1969 Dodge dart is
Now if it were say a 1968 Dart with the 426 HEMI then yeah it'd be worth it!

that is right. you would absoluty be a retard if you didnt take it home!! there are pleanty of reproduction parts out there. Mopar performance, original parts group etc. you can get frame rails, rear quarters. Damn i would deff take it home. i will be wortha lot more than the j when done.
if you dont want it send it my way.... gooluck.
maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day
*it
maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day
well thats one of my worries. thats why i havnt taken the car yet. Im talking to my manager tomorrow about what work it needs and then sunday if its still there im going take a look at it and if it looks like its in ok to eh shape, im going to take it. hell its
FREE so why not. the only thing like i said would be to pay for a tow to my house in jersey. that and i have a friend whos whole family has been working on mopars for years and he says he has all the parts that i would possibly need to get that motor running. see as this is my first restoration and this is what i want to do, it should be a fun project.

That would be nice! I dated a girl in High School that drove one....nice cars.
there is a 73 dart tore apart in my garage right now
they dont weigh much
other cars, better cars?
they are nice but here are some hints
318's arn't woth much stock in value or HP, through a 383 in it and call it a day.
dodge's rot faster than other cars. Don't know why but they do.
the frame rot will be a problem. If it' s a 318/auto, it's not worth too much, so go weekend worrior or "sleeper" approach with it.
just trying to help. Fut free is one hell of a deal!
1971 camaro 427 --- here!
Stock... and loving every minute of it.
i might be going weekend warrior with it because i just found out that the guy thats going to give me the parts for a 318 also has two 440s sitting around waiting for a car to go into so i guess well see where my budget takes me. the first thing i want done is to get the 318 running and then fix up the body hardcore.

you can built a 318 pretty easily
the one in the garage is bored out has a cam
and its an auto
but a manual shift now
other cars, better cars?
If really want a challenge do it.Heck I had a totalled 68 dodge charger with the 318 needed a whole front clip and many other things, sat for 10 yrs with in a wk had it running but not moving, trans seal shot and so forth.I did not have the money or time to fix it and sold it since it was left to me by my dad at the time.It would hv been cherry to do but, with the cost and interest at the time I did not want to deal with that and sold it as is.Still glad I did not pursue it as a resto proj.

You got it man
Who cares what shape it's in...it's free...an it's a Dodge Dart...a great American Muscle Car.......if it sits in a backyard and is worked on whenever you can for another 5 years it's worth it. I would love to totally restore a classic from the ground up...I've been involved in partial restorations of ours..Though something like this would be a dream...i'd go for it man..one day you can have a hella nice classic, however long it takes
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/onlyatmidnight12/hurt.jpg
im a @!#$ pussy ass liar! i lied to my girlfriend over and over, sat around with her friends naked and stayed home downloading porn...she loved me and i hurt her...i deserve to be alone and unhappy...no wonder every girl i try to love leaves me...i suck.
WHAT....you people are telling him to part out a 68 dart and put the money in his CAVALIER....you must be out of your mind. I like my cavalier and all but it is a piece of crap compared to my 68 firebird. My best friend has a 1968 Dart....they are amazing cars...not too many of them out there that are nice. Throw a 340 in it with a purple shaft cam and you will never drive your cavalier again. The 340 is hard to find but if you can find one they put out pretty awesome power. They are a short stroke big bore engine that can rev pretty good. Or the dime a dozen 360 would be a good option. I promise once you get the thing running and put a bigger cam in it you will not want to work on the cavalier anymore. The only reason I have my cavalier is because I would go broke if I drove any of my other cars every day.
So to summarize...GO GET THE CAR NOW, before they change their mind. take pictures, we will help you get started, build that thing and never look back.

Ok, I can see how what I said could be mis-understood. Allow me to clarify if I may.
My very 1st car was a 1968 Dodge Dart. I picked it up for $250.00 back in I think it was
1989. Anyway it was a great little car mine was a 340 car and it was quick. Problem was that it was sooo expensive to try and build or even restore. Then when the tranny started to go and I found out it was a special 727 in it and not the 904 and it was gonna run me $1200.00 to get it rebuilt I sold it. Old Mopars are very cool cars but Bluecavi is
100% correct. Good ole mom Mopar used very low quality steel back then in an attempt to keep the costs down. Problem is that that translates into BAD RUST problems. That along with the fact that the Dart is a TRUE uni-body car in the fact that there is no separate frame to unbolt the whole damn thing is welded together makes it a very, very expensive car to try and bring back. Now I'm not saying don't go look at it but just be careful. take a hammer with you and hit around the frame rails and see if it goes right thru if it does the this car is junk. If the frame rails are solid then yeah most everything else can be fixed. Just make sure your pockets can support it.
And yes even if the frame rails are rotted you can have them replaced but the cost to do so unless this is an ultra rare HEMI car is just not worth it. I've been down this road before and I know a money pit when I see one.
But like you said its FREE so what the hell go look. Just remember your hammer.
Your gonna want to check the front and rear frame rails as well as the cross members and the cross member that the torsion bars bolt to is very important too. If you hit them all good and hard and the hammer doesn't go thru you may just have something. I'm only trying to warn you as someone whos actually owned one of these before.
Good Luck

Wow, mopars are the @!#$ man, I have a 71 Roadrunner that I am currently restoring and i absolutly love it. It was my dads second car and I would never ever get rid of it for the world . I love that car. Mopars are really hot cars. Yuo can't beat free either, thta is the best part about that ar and the fact that you can get a 440 for the car is just nuts. I 440 big block in an A-Body Mopar is insane. Those cars only come with 340 small block as the biggest engine option wise from the factory.

They never made the 68 dart or any dart for that matter with a Hemi engine. Heck they never even used the 426 Hemi an A-body car becsue there wasn't enough room in the engine bay. They only came with small block such as your 340, 318, and slant 6. The did use the 426 Hemi in 68, but it was in a b-body car, such as the plymouth belvedere, and they used it in the E-Body cars in 1970 and 1971, such as the barracuda's and the challangers AKA pony Cars. The stopped using the 426 hemi and the hemi in general at the end of the 71 model year due to the emission acts of 1971. DAM TREE HUGGERS!
That doesn't mean tha you can't fit one in there though. The best place that i found to get reproduction parts is year one. Go to year one .com and they have everything that you can think of from a light bulb to an entire crate motor. They inventory they have there is amazing and the service and the parts are even better. So I would say YEAR ONE as a starting point. Good luck with your restoration

I am what I am and it is what it is.
I am the 2nd most untrusted person in the world next to a lawyer, welcome to our dealership, may I help you?
So then I'm guessing you never saw any of the Dodge Dart HEMI cars huh? Very true that the engine can not fit in it normally. BUT back in 1968 DODGE put 426 HEMI's into a very small group of DARTS. Every car was different becaus ethe guys on the assembly line actualy used sledge hammers to beet back the fire wall and transmission tunnel and shock towers. These cars were sold for super stock drag raceing and only a very few made it to see actual street use. They do exist & they were made. They were striped down race cars that came with no back seats no inner door panels no radios and no heat even. Check up on them if you don't believe me
its
cool.
They are great cars and yours sounds cool but trust me on those HEMI Darts. Or not,
but do a little reseach and I bet you can finf them.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Never mind heres a great link to a HEMI DART even has a good pic of what they looked like.HEMI DART
See how you all like this.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Damn it didn't work!! Anyway thats the link for you to go to and see a factory HEMI Dart.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
HOT DAMN IT WORKED THAT TIME !!!!! Anyway THAT is a Dart worth saveing!
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Just like Jackalope said ther were Hemi Darts made off the assembly line for SS Drag Racing, 10 second cars from the factory in 1968, I don't care who you are that's impressive for any car.
Yella02-I promise I will return to you in one piece and this will stay up until I am safely home
thanks for all the advice from everyone. restoring old cars is the profession i want to get into someday and this is just a start. HEMI or not im still building up this dart because it would be sweet, and altho i love my cavaliers, RWD V8s are just badass.
