to get a good job it's likely necessary

cause you gotta see if there is any damage, filler etc
lots of primer lots of sanding
lots of colour sanding

or earl schieb for $69

please no. cars arent meant to be neon colors.

Andy

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.
ZZP XP cam, 1.6 rockers, 105# springs, speedbuilt FWI, 3.3" modular pulley, TOG headers,
3" exhaust, flomatched injectors

My biggest tip would be when you pick up the primer, surfacer, and base coat, and clears, make sure you get what is called a P-sheet (product sheet). It will tell you what you can mix and how you should mix stuff. As well as flash time and dry times. Its kinda hard to just tell ya how to paint. Soo much to it.

You might wanna look up self etching and acid based primers vs. epoxy primers. Very important to get those thing right because the paint wont last even if your prepping is done right. Certain base coats wont stick to some primers. Sanding in between coats of primer is very important.

Im by no means trying to discourage you from trying it yourself. Theres no better way to learn than by trying it. Just make sure you do your research or youll be wasting a lot of time and money. PPG.com has a lot of good information usually.
This is just an example of what you can find one one of the primers http://corporate.ppg.com/ppg/refinish/matthews/documents/mpc167.pdf

Good luck and keep us updated!
