I was wondering if anyone heard about this. My neighbor just bought a damn near new 2003 Impala LS. It only had 7000 miles on it, fully loaded and she was able to snag it at a price of $20,000. ANYWAYS, while she was at the dealership, they told her her standard warranty is usually 35,000 miles, but said "GM as of January 1st is increasing the standard warranty up to 50,000 miles". She didn't purchase an extended warranty or anything. Has anyone read or heard anything about this? Is it only for recently purchased cars, or all 05's? Or is this dealership pulling her leg?
Wouldn't do me any good...my car is past 57,000 mark and is rapidly encroaching on the big 60,000 mile mark.
However, I have not heard of this...and if this is the case...it's about time GM tries to keep up with it's competitors. Only offering a 36,000 mile warranty isn't good with their competitors offer more without having to buy some extended warranty contract.
they might be doing it.....the cobalt has a 60,000 mile
The standard warranty is 36 months (36,000 miles) bumper to bumper.
The powertrain warranty for the Cobalt is 60 months (60,000 miles).
It's not a bumper to bumper warranty for 5 years.
I could see them offering a new warranty on new cars sold after Jan.1, but I don't think it's even remotely possible they would make it retroactive. They are in bad enough shape money-wise already.

It just pisses me off that GM would do this out of the blue. Not like I have anything to really worry about cause I only have about 8000 miles on my 05, but its still sucks that I'd get screwed out of 15,000 miles cause I didn't wait a year to buy mine. It'd make sense with them doing that though. Every other car company out there has 50,000 or more. Hell, my friend's Tiburon has a 100,000 miles warranty on it.
GM is the single most company that NEEDS to bump up. if they want people to take them seriously that they've improved their quality, they need to put their money where their mouth is and give a 5 year 50,000 mile warranty....minimum.
they won't do that because they know darn well they still crap that will break or squeak after a year.

Hell my dealer gave me an unlimited warranty on the power train as long as I get all my service work done through them. I wont be using it though, its a 60 mile trip each way to them and im not driving 120 miles just to get the oil changed.
I have a gm extended warranty to 88k miles but i bought mine at 68
wait wait wait, 20 grand?

i hope gm does this, although i wont hold my breath. im probly buying new early next year....i really miss having a warranty.
lol, it wasn't a Lumina. A Lumina isn't worth a broken jockstrap, LOL. It was a fully loaded Impala LS for $20,000 even. 2003 with only 7000 miles. So how is that a rip?
