It's true though, you can stick an LS1 in an RX-7

Check it out:

I'm sure it would be a lot of work but its nice to know its do-able.

Heck, you can stick an LS1 in almost anything these days

Its an RX-7. Why the @!#$ would put in a chevy ls1, stick to rotary power.

There was an RX-7 w/ a LS1 Conversion in this month's Sport Compact Car, and they broke down the car in last month's issue.

It's pretty sweet, then engine itself is only about 100 pounds heavier than the 13B it replaced If my memory serves me.

Keep in mind a rotary motor needs a lot of upkeep. Find the turbo motor though, check www.car-part.com for a used one. Having one definitely would be neat. I thought about buying one awhile back, but I'd rather have a motorcycle instead. Good luck with the RX-7.

Because for the price of a used LS1, and dropping it in the RX7 it would beat the hell out of any rotary motor. I have a friend that has an RX7 with the LS1 conversion, and for just motor, without a new fuel pump, he ran 11 flat. ALL MOTOR! Tell me that isnt impressive. Do some mods to the motor and go even faster. Its been done before and it seems like a successful conversion. Let me guess if anyhting you would want a ford motor in it? Even so its personal opinion and the LS1 is a good option. Low weight plus large motor = 11 seconds even with the fuel pump cutting out.

RX-7 S4 13B-T 86-88 ... would that bolt in to the 85 chassis? i can also get the tranny ecu and complete wire harness from jdm engines . i just curious if it would mount the same way ?

Blade - a 13BT would take a LOT of work to stick in there.

here's a huge suggestion for you - if you opt to stick with a rotary(and all its maintenance - it's an expensive one to keep running well), go to www.nopistons.com

if you opt for a V8 swap(a 350 and tranny will use the original motor and tranny mounts), go to www.wrongmotor.com

regardless of what you do, go to www.rx7club.com

those folks will know a HELL of a lot more than the people around here.

because if you don't have the money to keep up with the maintenance, this is a good option. hell, i'll be doing it once i can get my hands on a worthwhile body.

Yeah, I've got an '88 FC that's getting the V8 treatment of SOME sort, be it LS1 or something else come springtime.

ok i thought that the 85 would have different motor mounts since its a 1st gen instead of a second gen but thats good to know that i can bolt up a 350 with the same mounts so i don't have to change the mounts . what bout the tranny though . will a 5 speed or a auto fit?
Re: 1985 mazda rx7
Sunday, November 06, 2005 1:24 PM
if i were you, i'd go with a 5spd (though they will both fit)...and yes, it will fit, using the same mounts(which i've already said as well).

please, read the responses before you ask questions when the answers are right in front of you - and ask questions of the people who work with these cars day in and day out, rather than those who might possibly have had one. there are three links that i've given you. use them.
