Thursday, November 03, 2005 7:35 PM
Whats a good sports car to get for $7,000. I was helping my friend look for a car and now it got me thinking. I was thinking any car would work (manual trans would be nice). So if you guys have any good ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks for you help.

Pleaes post some good ones!!!

Thanks JBO!

for that price you could find a high milage LT1 F-body to rebuilt, or even an old hatch and do a swap, but if you want to keep it stock or near stock/just bolt ons not mess with internals I'd say your bets bet is a DSM

Id say a mazda Mx7 I think it is. A kid i know has one and he did an LS1 Swap and is running 11's on just the motor. So i would do that.

get an old fiero and put an LT1 in it

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.

If your gonna do a fiero... which are becoming rare and pretty expensive ( at least around here from what ive noticed ) you need to drop in a 32 Valve Northstar.. that would be the way to go if you do a Fiero

Someone beat me to it, Fiero, you can find one with under 50k miles for 8 grand. The engine swap list is endless. 3800s/c ,3.4DOHC, 350v8, Northstar, and EcotecS/Cs (Ecotec is in progress at least)
You could find a Fiero w/ a swapped engine in really good condition for cheap.

buy an old Bertone X1/9. it's not fast. but it's like a street legal gocart with doors!!! you can take turns in that thing at speeds you could never think about in a J. there's an '86 one here in town for 2000 with performance suspention, a header, intake and ignition things done. it's set up for racing. if i werent doin work to my GTP, i'd buy it.

DSM if you got $7,000 more to repair it everyday .

Kidding!

If you decide Fiero......just make sure it is pre-fire.

And the LS1 swaps into many cars well. Mainly because of how light and powerful it is. Doesn't throw off the balance of a car like the Miata or RX-7 much.
