the frame that god himself created, tftghc body for short.
opel platfrom sappy told me told.
-Borsty
i think its a type-r platform
The current GTO is based off the monaro so gm doesnt even build it. That could be the reason for no designator
It is also based off of the Cadillac Catera that was built here so maybe that had a letter name?
Good guesses but G.M. calls it a "V" body. Same as the old Cadilac Catera.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
My dad is looking into buying a GTO soon. Can anyone tell me something to tell him to look for options etc.

lol only one real option. manual tranny.
/\ /\ /\ Is right. As far as I know the only option is a manual trans.

lol kinda siappointing, i wanted t-tops/sunroof, xm radio, might be nice to see stuff like, heated seats and mirrors, or perhaps a bigger engine
but i aint complaining, i still want one.
Like a 7.0l Z06 motor?
I just made myself cream. That would be one hell of an option, the GTO Type-R, because thats what you name things that are fast.

ahem
GM OWNS HOLDEN
so they own the manaro platform name etc
basically the same as the catera
its based off of an opel platform from the 90s
and as far as options
you can get a sunroof installed by the dealer
xm radio too
but factory options are 18" wheels
manual tranny and on some cars the interior color
other cars, better cars?

Tell your dad not to get the 6.0L ... tell him that if he wants to, he could bore out the 5.7L and it would be pretty bad ass. Especially if he got a P&P with that bore.

and dont tell him not to get the 6.0, thats silly
if he wants to he can get it bored to a 7.0

For a bit of trivia, the Australian Holden Monaro, on which the Pontiac GTO is based, is actually built on Holden's Commodore sedan chassis, which in turn is a stretched version of the German Opel Omega chassis. The rear-wheel-drive Opel Omega chassis dates back to the early 90s.

Well reading it, the post I quoted says 'Type-R'
Also, you cannot bore out the LS1 without paying a TON of money. Pretty thin walls stock.

Huh? I think a 402 LS2 stroker motor is a little bit more advanced and powerful than a 383 LS1.
1999 Ford SVT Contour- a few mods
You cannot bore out the LS1. At least not without re-sleeving it. And that gets costly.
383 LS1 is just added stroke.
402 LS2 is the added bore of the LS2 with added stroke.
Basicly the 402 is what I am installing in my Trans Am. But the iron block version for strength.
And the LS2 is no more advanced than the LS1. Damn near identical design with a couple sensors in different locations and the bore is a touch bigger.

actually, it is
w/ a bigger tb and other things
but it doesnt have teh cooling channels in the block that the ls1 did which is why it suffers from heat soak
but ita also easier to bore out and resleave due to this fact
you can bore it out to 427cid
