Today was my second time out to the track in the cavy. It was a pretty nice day, about 60 degrees, humidity didn't seem bad. Track elevation is 1165 feet.
My car is an 04 Ecotec 5 speed.
The first time I went out was about 6 months ago and I ran a 15.8 @ 86 or so, which is about what I expected. Today I went out and sucked as follows:
r/t -- .656
60 -- 2.505
330 -- 6.903
1/8 -- 10.550
mph -- 67.35
1000 -- 13.688
1/4 -- 16.343
mph -- 84.74
Ok... first run of the day. Bad 60. Try again...
r/t -- .494
60 -- 2.431
330 -- 6.78
1/8 -- 10.423
mph -- 67.13
1000 -- 13.566
1/4 -- 16.223
mph -- 84.71
Second run and best time of the day. Pretty pissed off about that.
r/t -- .330
60 -- 2.358
330 -- 6.818
1/8 -- 10.535
mph -- 66.16
1000 -- 13.718
1/4 -- 16.395
mph -- 84.24
Third run, pretty decent 60. Wtf happened to this run? Should have been a pretty good one.
r/t -- .580
60 -- 2.476
330 -- 6.859
1/8 -- 10.528
mph -- 66.62
1000 -- 13.696
1/4 -- 16.370
mph -- 84.30
Last run. Had a lot of wheel hop, which led to a crappy 60. Accidently bounced off the rev limiter is 3rd but I think the quarter mile was already over and the car is ok... On the up side I beat a civic dx in this run by a couple tenths. Yay...
Tips? What am I doing wrong? Why am I half a second slower than I was 6 months ago? No changes have been made to the car... I don't get it.
can be a lot of things. track conditons, humidity, or maybe you spun your tires too much
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Was your reaction time better on the last time cause that has alot to do with it.

what about ur rims? when u rana 15.8 were those with the stock tires or with your rims?
and same with the new times: old or new?

R/T has no effect on ET's.
do some suspension work to control the wheelhop. that should help some and it takes alot of practice too. i have never been to the track but thats all i hear from everyone who runs good times on here.

If it wasnt for the chicken, i wouldnt get layed.
I've never dragged from a tree. But I always thought that RT did affect ET. I dunno. I guess I need to look this up lol.
Brakes? I don't need no stinking brakes....I have air bags

I can run the 60 foot faster than what you're doing with your car
.
Launch better and you'll have some respectable times.
O noes!

Thank you! Geez, how many times do people have to point this out?!?!

Come on guys cut newbs some slack.
The counting doesn't start unless you acctually move.
You can sit on the light for 5 seconds and still run a 12.
That is how like GN's sloop up down here and then take off like a bat out of hell.
Wheel hop is almost inevitable, I am serious.

Now that you mention it I might have been on stock rims... but I don't think so. I'm pretty sure I already had my new ones. If I did I don't see how that would make THAT big of a difference. I gained a lot of traction over my stock rims/tires with these.
Smokey: Care to offer some launching tips? What should I be shooting for as far as a 60 foot time?
before i totaled my 02 cavy, i would always launched about anywhere from 4500 o 5000 and i wouldnt drop the clutch, it might be harder on it but it seemed to help alittle, i didnt seem to have much wheel hop and did spin the tires as much. doing it this way i got fairly consetant and was running like 16 evens and the lowest i got on a stock cavy was a 15.6, and that was doing it that way, but it must have been a one time deal cause i couldnt run that again. it must have been just perfect track conditions at that time.

rims will make a huge difference actually i run 15.7@86,mph if i leave my 17's on if i put my 15" rims on it drops down to 15.3 in the exact same nite about 10 minutes later you need the Rotating mass as close to the center of the rims as possible as that makes the rims easier to spin and use less HP to get going
Well my 99 auto z24 with intake and cat back ran 16.4 all year long. No matter what i did.
My main reason i think is from wheel hop. Smaller rims would also help.
thats my 2cents.

R/T has no effect on ET's.
So your saying if I got a 3 second reaction time that wouldnt tack on another 3 seconds to your ET. Think before you open your mouth.

You know you should take your own advice. Think before you open YOUR mouth Ok now, a reaction time is the time that it takes from when the lights go green to when your car starts moving, then once you are moving the clock starts for your et. If youve ever paid attention at a track you should know this. A 3 second reaction time would not tack three seconds on to your ET.

"If its to loud, your to old!"

That's exactly what I'm saying. So learn something before you try to shoot me down. I'm not often wrong around here. Sometimes... but not often.
yeah, i think it was kevin that had A 16 SECOND REACTION TIME and still ran a 16sec quarter
that MUST mean that he ran the quarter in like a tenth of a second
HOLY COW WEAS!
My bad thought the clock started when light turned green.

the time only starts when u cross the sensor to start timming you. thats when u red light the time starts b/c u crossed the sensor. so if u ever just redlight just go.

It was actually an 18 second reaction time so I really covered the track in a little under -2 seconds.
And I'm not driving a Delorean.
Thanks for the correction. Sorry bout that dont like makin enemies.

lol
if that's all you're worried about, just don't post if you're not completely certain
there's nothing that anyone on any forum hates more than someone spouting off incorrect information
i've been on this board for close to three years, and honestly.... i didn't really start posting quite a bit (especially in the tech forums) til a little over a year ago. i just sat back and read post after post, and i really learned alot.
and don't be afraid to admit you're wrong either, that's the first step to breaking out of your newb cocoon
Jbodytuner wrote:Think before you open your mouth.
That was your biggest mistake.
What you should have said was something like "If you have a 2 second RT, doesn't it add 2 seconds to your ET?" and we'd have explained it to you in a more friendly manner.
I don't like making enemies either and you'll see that I often post stuff like "I'm not really sure about this" or "someone else will have to clarify" when I'm not sure I'm right.
When I AM sure I'm right, I really hate being argued with.
Discussions are fine, I'm happy to educate. I just hate being TOLD that I'm wrong when I'm not.
Anyhow... all's well that ends well. You got owned. I got a laugh. And you're now a little more educated as a result.
