my friend has a gtech device and came to my place to show it off. he entered his vehicle weight and a 60 to 50 mph time. he ran his 1/4 and he was shown as 16.9 and 17.0 sec times which is dead on for his 97 i4 accord. so he asks me if id like to try my car. i say sure and we hook it up. i put in 2770 as weight then added 300 for our combined weight for total of 3070. In the end the entered weight shouldnt matter anyways thats only to project your hp #'s. i did the 60 to 50mph time and was set to go. 1st run with me and him in the car got 16.10 with lots of spin in beginning and im thinking ok this is damn accurate. did another run with tire spin again got 15.9. At this point im thinking ok my auto is quicker than a normal auto. i ask him if i can make 2 passes w/o his weight in the car. he agrees gets out set the weight at 2890. i spin tires again and came out with a 15.6 and I am @!#$ happy as hell. my last run with just me in the car again i decide to ease the gas for a split second then punch it so i dont spin. took off perfectly and my run was a 15.07??? WTF Now I'm not claiming i ran a 15.07 but i am a little confused. I know the quickest auto stock has been around 15.2 or somthing but what are the chances that i have somthing similar? Im very pessamistic right now and do not know what to think. Any suggestions or comments are more than welcome. The only thing i can compare to is my race against grand prix gtp. i lost by about 1 car at 70 mph. Also the device read out my car as having around 164 hp or so. Some one plz help me figure this out.
If you only lost to a gtp by one car length then yes you might be running a 15.0. I don't really trust those devices but I think they might be accurate. I would go to the track and see what it really does.
oh just if this helps it read the 15.07 at 92.xx mph
The GTech is a good tool for tuning and what not but the numbers are meaningless when it comes to making claims to a time. Just as you said.
The only way to know for sure is to take 'er to a track.

thanks for the info. So should i disregard the time completely or am I more than likely a weird quick auto?
if i were to go out and buy one of these devices myself redo all the little tests and re-run, and still get around 15.1 can i rest on the matter that that is my true time? or at least know that im somewhere in low 15's? thanks for the comments.

yea maybe your right gtech is probably a waste of time. but im still stuck on the fact that it gave his car the times that it truly does get....???.... im still skeptical but i still also have an ounce of hope.
If it makes you feel any better I believe that your car runs 15.1 in the quarter mile.
Well now that we got that out of the way take it to the track and see what it runs.

I can't for the life of me figure out what I did with that slip.
I know I didn't throw it out though! It'll turn up eventually!
Anyhow... seriously... no matter how many runs you do with the GTech and how consistantly it's timing you, you just can't claim those times as real. There's simply no way to know how accurate it is measuring you.
You might as well go get one of those little surveying wheels and go for a walk. Mark off a quarter mile strip of road and then have a friend time you with a stop watch. You can have him say "go" in a walkie talkie when he starts the watch. You'll get just as accurate a reading!
If it makes you feel good that you're getting those readings, so be it. If you've never been to a track though, make plans to do so. Besides getting accurate times, it's just plain good fun!!
track
cuz for stock auto that is insane
there is no way that is right\
People who think hondas are the @!#$ now thats funny.... haha
Are you sure you didnt misread a 16.1
my 04 auto ran a 16.3 1/4 and with stage 2 cams im running riight on the a_s of a GTP

the JBO performance stage 2 cams dyno at 22whp!!!
- I def. wanna get them!
as soon as i get mine timed i will be able to tell the actual difference. right now, by butt dyno anyways, my mid range 35-65 mph pulls very nicely but these cams are suppose to be more top end so we'll see. and come the second week in mar i will be getting on a track and will see what the improvement is
