It depends on if he's a good driver -- if he is, then he'll beat you just based on it being a 5 - speed.
Tell him you read on this site that the ecos run the fastest when the drivers dump the clutch at like 5000 rpm.

I'm stuck with an auto myself, and I attribute at least 50% of my wins to bad stick drivers. I beat a new GTO in my near stock convertible auto sunfire at the track....The driver is the most important factor in a race, no question. Post results after the race and let us know what happened.

I'd have to agree that its all in the driver, if you find someone who can drive a stick pretty good, then it will be a very tough race. I have an 03 Cav 5spd, and I rarely lose. But i drove an 04 Cav auto, and it was pretty fast. I've never raced and new cav with an auto.

i think an average driver can win w/ a manual
I raced an auto sunfire and kicked his butt and he even had more stuff done to his car! I got him by like 3 three cars. So as long as the guy doesn't miss a shift you will lose.

I raced a 5-speed bone stock '97 GT and mine is an auto '97 GT and i got smoked just about like ecotec is talkin about
I only break the tires loose goin into second or if it's cold out.

i raced a 97 cav 2.4L with cold air auto and my car was stock 5 speed 2.4L and i smoked him so bad it wasnt even worth the time and gas.
the auto will win mainly because of the shortness of the race.
you will fly through first, and the stick will mostly spin like crazy then churp 2nd and waste even more time. by the time he is outhauling you in third. the race will be over and you will have won.
