mod for mod and stock vs. stock how do all three generations perform against eachother?all trim lines and engines etc?
3rd gen stock ftw... As much as I'd love to say my eco is king, I know those 2.4's can be deadly
had a blown ecotec swapped 2000 cavy, now just an 02 Grand Am, and a 74 BMW 2002...
i like the late 80's z for looks, but i think the 00z is the quickest version. i am biased and admit it. but i would own a mid 2nd gen and swap a 3.1 in it and drive it all day.
id love me a 1st gen z24 coupe. and droptop.
Well the best bang for your buck (cheapest) would be a 2nd gen with a 3400/ 3500 swap. Stock definitely the 3rd gen 2.4 or 2.2 eco. And a 5spd unless your gonna mod the hell outta the engine and auto trans
I loved my old 3.1L. Having 180-185tq was great
give me a second gen z24 (with full stock aero) with a boosted 3400 swap... i'd be in heaven...
until i own one of those, i'll keep my 2000 Z24 with 02 LSS front and rear lips, and toyo cavalier fenders

x2. My first car was almost a 87 Z24 5 speed. My parents didn't get it because it did not have ac. Instead got a 89 cavy base auto with air. Ac died 1-2 years later and I never fixed it.

LOL john.
1st gen's were slow, 2nd's were a bit better but it took 2 more cylinders to make the same power as the DOHC 3rd gens.

I agree 3 gen's are faster stock for stock. Still a 1 gen Z24 would be pimp!!

Horsepowerwise, the 2.4 will win stock. The old 3.1 torque happy.

wrong!
do some more research son. the 2.4 was definately not the "hp winner" of stock j engine's.
True. I had forgotten about the turbo sunbirds. They would win the top hp spot. But they aren't very common around here, so they kinda skipped my mind.

The 3.1 had the most torque. The turbo 2.0 had the most horsepower.
my dream j body would have to be a 2nd gen z24 with a supercharged eco

Still slower than a n/a LD9/eco 3 gen.

Remember that there were two turbo-charged engines in the 2nd and 3rd gen Sunbird GT's. The 1.8L Turbo had 155 HP and the 2.0L Turbo had 165HP. Daewoo still uses the LT3 engine design today, with their engines being known as the C20XE and the C22XE.
Almost got a 2nd Gen 2.0 turbo but it was rusted to badly. I have never seen a stock for stock ld9 v. Eco run.... someone who should test it out.... personally I'm partial to the eco.
Depending on the condition of both motors, it would be hard to say. The 2.4 should win in theory, but the eco is less prone to blowing up, so its a good question.

according to who? If you maintain an engine well its not going to blow up, most Ld9's get a bad rep for blowing up because people dont do proper maintenance and run it dry/low on oil which causes all kinds of issues.
Also, 3rd gen Z24 FTW. I'm 100% bias
Eat my shift
i will not get into the eco LD9 debate as i am hitting over 5xx,xxx km on my LD9 but the again the old 91 Z I had I would trade my z in for anyday, 3400 turbo charged bone sock exterior, weight reduced, 14 inch slicks in from, etc......eco well my cousin has one as a door stop

the only ecotec to have beaten my cavy (exhaust and intake) around here was a 2.0 turbo cobalt. i know ryan (qwkln2) lives around me somewhere but we havnt ran and i dont think i want to
