First outing since engine build
Monday, October 06, 2008 1:35 PM
So with only 500 miles on the engine I went and did this this weekend.

BRR-SCCA autocross
Finished in the top 3rd, car needs a little rear camber and some R-compound tires.

1st pic shows a nice rear tire lift.

you can still be in the prepared class. prob not a lot of competitors in that class tho. good luck in SM if you aren't boosted. im jealous of the internals. why have 3 numbers? i hate people that have more than 2 numbers for an event unless they are a 2 driver car.

Cool,

Did you completely eliminate your balance shafts? If so.... how?

Maybe for the 2.4 but not so much for the Ecotec we don't have that strange step that seems to break loose on the 2.4s...

I've had mine for years without an issue.

LZM balance shaft delete kit

you can only install this with the engine out of the car tho...

That's an option or you could completely remove them like mine are... I was just curious how he accomplished it.

The LZM kit, all you end up with is bearings spinning in the old balance shaft places.

You get 2 block off pieces where the old shafts were lubricated inside the engine.

Yeah, I had the LZM kit but never installed it. Seems like it could cause uneven wear on the bearings since the back of the bal shaft is not held in place. I have no idea how much of a difference removing them makes, I made too many changes at once.

Have fun with the build

airtronics -

the steps on the ld9 flywheel having not one thing to do why the fidanza's go bad... the CENTER where it bolts to the crank completely shreds apart.

failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Ok so you built the motor, but whats the compression ratio? Plans for boost or going straight NA? Keep in mind I'm completely ignorant of just about all things autocross so I don't know what your class allows or doesn't, thus my question..

If he's in SM, (Street Modified) it allows for just about anything you want to the motor, including a swap from pretty much anything GM makes (SBC powered Cavalier anyone? Kill what weight balance the J has though.)

Suspension is pretty much open except for architecture changes (IRS swap is a No no for SM, that pus you straight into "Modified")

Rear disk conversion should be OK in SM though (have to find my rulebook again).

I ran in SM with the GM blower, Koni sport kit suspension, 25mm swaybars, strut tower braces, SS brake hoses with the Powerslot/HawkHPS combo for brakes.

Fun to drive, but not competitive. Stupid Minis. :p

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.
