My friend just got this car and he thinks he is faster. you know the normal friend thing going on. i know he has a 2.4 with i think 153hp. Just wondering if anyone raced one or if i can beat him he did get on it from what it looked like to pass me but i got on it and left him behind, and he said he let off so not too sure.

the thing is i think i might! actually have beat him and thats why he wont go, he said he has to get some mods first so idk, i dont like loosing but i really could care less on the matter.
i raced my friend's 03 clipse GS and raped him.... and that was when my car had only a cone filter off the stock throttle cover and he had intake/header/exhaust....
The 3G's are pigs.... plain and simple... they weigh a ton and the alloys dont help them either.
Heres how it went at the track:
launch - he had me, bigger tires and all for a better traction
2nd gear - about 1/4 way into 2nd gear I was passing him like he was standing still....
3rd on... tail lights and him cursin up a blue streak
And he's one helluva driver. Drives my car better than I can and he's never driven it more than a few times, lol...
So ya... if you race him at the track and he's n/a.... u'll possibly win but the auto might drag you down a bit... not sure...

just getting back from the results. I was finally able to convince him to go to the track and race, so here was the outcome.
2005 Sunfire 16.049 et
2000 eclipse gs at the best of a 17.2 i think.

Is he an automatic, or just a terrible driver? I know it weighs a lot, but I mean... come on..
is the gt or gts much faster than the gs? i know they've got 50 hp more (205 for the gt and 210 for the gts), but what does that translate to as far as ET's go?

Isn't the GTS AWD? If so, that'd help out a lot.
no hes just not all that good of a driver, i mean his launch is great but his throws are so long i only think he could hit a high 16 at best and yes the gt is the better version and so is the rs both i believe are low 16 or high 15s i think.

i raced an eclipse the other night from a role..and i raped it..all i have done to my car is a cold air intake..he sounded like he had an exhaust..not sure what else..but he couldent keep up wit my z24
Ran one on a 1/8 mile drag strip, had it by 1/2 a car.

the 2000ish 2.4 eclipses are slow as hell i walk all over them but the v6 gt are quick with full intake and just a slapped on muffler like the older avengers my buddy had an avenger with the 3.0 all it had was cold air filter down in bumper and chopped exhaust off and he smoked my buddy with a 350 2wd truck that was built
i have an 03 gt spyder auto. not all that fast. highway i eat most 4 cyl and some 6. off the line i got nothing. with a 5 speed and a good driver they are quick at best. not fast. but they handle 10000 times better than our cars and with 17" wheels stock any turning involved the eclipses are amazing. well thats my opinion.

Couldn't agree more. The ONLY Eclipses that are worth anything are the 1G and 2G. DSM baby!
