me and my buddy are goin to a local drag stip for college nite, and i want to race my 91 2.0 sunbird vs, his hynduia (how u spell it ) sonata, with a 2.4 v6, he has a cone filter lol thats it, i have a full exhaust, and air intake, im not lookin for fast times im just wondering if id beat him???

its a 3.3L v6 i own one... its a quick car off the line for a heavy 4 door... it runs around a 15.2 i ran mine at 15.03 @ 96.5 mph with a K+N filter and all the junk removed (including spare tire... so if your not running around 15 you may lose... tiptronic makes it a little faster (thats how i ran the 15.03 rather than the 15.25 with it in "D")

All I can find on a hyundai sonata w/ a 2.4 has 138 hp... I could be wrong. His car should weigh about 3200 lbs. You on the other hand have 96 hp and weigh 2500 lbs.
A few years ago I came up with my own calculation to find out if I could beat a car and so far it has been wrong once so its a pretty good "formula" if you will. For every 100 lbs less you weigh than your opponent, you gain 5 hp against them. Or 1 hp every 20 lbs.
In your case were talking 700 lbs difference, which would be 35 hp + your 96 hp. So 131 hp vs 138. Close race. Now it depends on whos auto or manual. I add 10-15 for manual.
This is just what I base off of when I pull up to 350Zs and Evos and all those goodies... Deciding if I want to look stupid or not haha!
ic ic, ya lol i got a automatic, plus a system, so im prolly gonna take the system out if i run again his, also lol while were on the subject, what do my odds look like again a 98' 2.2 cavy with a knock of ram air intake ? lol what kinda hp they pushing

if he has the v6 he has 235hp/227tq
if he has the 4cyl this ^^^^ is probably going to be a good race... otherwise you may not have fun :_
definetly take out the system, floormats, spare tire, anything you can ditch to lighten it up.
actually... what year are we talking about? im talking about the 06-08 models... the older models had a smaller v6 with 200~ hp... lol i wouldnt bother taking an older sonata to the track personally.
take it to the track and figure it out lol... idk but i know they are a decent bit less powerful... its a 2.5L v6 though... either way. you should have a good race... now that i know its not an 06 plus, you probably could beat it. and the power is like 170 h/ 150t
