I have done it in a rally prepped '89 Civic. It was a ton of fun flying around in the gravel, but it definelty requires a much different driving style from autocross. You have to be really gentle with steering and throttle inputs, and heavy on the e-brake

unless you have an extra car or a bunch of skid plates (like what you can purchase for subarus) under your car I wouldn't reccomend it. But if you do do it make sure you budget cash our for new wheel bearings once a year or so. Its really tough on them and your going to get dirt EVERYWHERE on your car.

Yep, there is the South Florida SCCA region doing monthly (or maybe bi-monthly) rallycrosses near Sebring. It's a pretty good time, although I sadly lack the proper car to do it currently. Hopefully that will change in the next couple weeks and I'll be back out there soon enough.

I had tried at one point to begin hosting similar local events (albeit, with more of a true rally feel) to southern Brevard County, but was met with strong opposition from land owners and insurance companies. So, like autocross in Brevard, we will have to do without. Anyway, I'll let you know about the next couple Rally-X events in S-FL. I don't have the schedule with me at the moment as I am at work.

Told ya I'd get back to you...

The next Rallycross will be held at Moroso Motorsports Park. April 15th, 9AM to 3PM. Open to all cars and trucks except convertibles without roll cages and raised vehicles. Long pants and closed-toed shoes required for participants.

$45 for drivers and $10 for spectators. Children under 11 free.
Participants should be able to get well over 30 minutes of seat time at this event.

This course isn't perfectly smooth like Homestead but most cars should be able to handle it just fine.

I've rallycrossed for the last four years. We have a 1989 Sentra 1.6L called "The General Lei" and have kicked many AWD Subaru asses. BTW, e-brake is for TV, we never touch it. Rallye and Rallycross are two different animals altogether. Rallye is done at MUCH higher speeds and is pretty dangerous. I wouldn't dream of doing that without a car that was fully prepped with cage and all the safety gear.

If you've never tried it and have a place to do so you should. We paid $400 for our car and it kicks major ass with only 71whp. It ain't the car, it's the driver that makes it fast.

Wanna see some rallyX video? Go to Google video and seach for THSCC Rallycross. You'll see my car on there and lots of others.
