Took my Cav out for the last time this year before the turbo kit goes on in spring 2007. All i have done is an AEM cold air intake, 2.25 inch magnaflow dual catback exhaust, and HP tuners. This is a 2002 2.2L OHV 5 Speed.
Best run with intake + exhaust, a few months ago was a 16.7 for the 1/4 mile
This is what i ran after my boyfriend tuned it with HP Tuners:
r/t - .869
60' - 2.221
330 - 6.650
1/8 -10.370
1000 - 13.565
1/4 - 16.313
mph - 80.54
I know i could have done better, ended up maxing out 3rd gear and i could feel the power loss before i hit the rev limiter before the end of the 1/4 mile. i wasnt sure if i should shift into 4th or not, i was hoping i could make the 1/4 mile marker without maxing 3rd before i did. not sure if i should bump up the rev limiter or not, to fit it in, or if i should just shift into 4th. I know that made an impact on my time being more then it could have. Any suggestions?
Does anyone have any suggestions or comments? Come on guys :-p
Try it both ways and see.
i got a 16.4 when i did shift into 4th but i still had a bad launch and during that run my clutch was giving me @!#$ when i was putting it in gear (i have post in the 3rd gen forum) im not really sure whats wrong with it...
holding out 3rd is better because eliminating a shift means you can't miss it
but, the oHV runs out of so much steam up top, it might actually hurt to hold it out. On a twin cam engine, it wouldn't be as bad because the drop off wouldn't be as substantial.
your times for what you have done are very good however. your '60 is damn good.. a lot of the guys on here with much faster cars are hard pressed to get 2.2 60'
what rpm do you launch at?
all in all, very nice runs.. if you finish up your exhaust with a header and high flow cat you'll see a nice gain.. but the real shining point of the OHV is headwork. If you get the head ported and polished you'll see a HUGE increase in power and that plus header should put you into the 15s.
back when I had my OHV, intake, header with exhaust and a ported head put me at a 15.7x @ 86mph. When I had your mods I couldn't break 16.5 HPT is definetly helping you out, if you do what I tell you as far as mods you could be getting into mid 15s
good luck
thanks. im actually plannin on putting in a turbo this spring, along with a ported head. id like to punch out my cat before getting a high flow, one reason is the flex pipe has deteriorated significantly and you can hear it rattle sometimes. and after seeing the stock downpipe, the restrictions on it are quite obvious. haha. the sad thing about the 16.3 is i could have done a better launch and towards the end of the track i felt the power just drop off before hitting the rev limiter and of course, i crossed the 1/4 mile line after that happened so i have a feeling if i could have avoided hitting the rev limiter and launched a bit bitter i could have seen a 16.1 easily. im pretty sure i launched at around 3k. i cant remember only because i usually just go by feeling. lol. theres alot to think about if you start playing everything by its mechanics. i try to just feel what my car wants me to do.
When I had the same mods as you and 17's on I think I was running 16.3 or 16.5's also! One of them atleast.....

thanks, i will definatly look into that further. by spring im hoping to have the head ported and the turbo kit, completed and installed. im going to see how it does with that and from there go with rebuilding the internals. i go to school full time and work full time so it will come as the money does.
