i went out for to the 1/4 mile track for the 1st time this year.

that is slow in the time then last year by about 1 second
and faster then last year by about 3mph.
it was super hot and dry that night. the temp was well over 30.C
i thougth i would be in the low 17s because i now have a header, cat back, engine mounts, and WAI.
lol, yeah man, bolt ons just aren't going to do much for an auto 2200. Of course a torque converter and a trans rebuild/re-gear would probably do you wonders.

The biggest help engine wise, is some serious head work. A full port and polish job with the +1mm valves and a roller rocker convesion. The stock rockers were measured to actually be 1.54:1(instead of the advertised 1.6:1). Next thing would be a cam regrind. Read through the many posts in the performance forum concerning the 2.2L/2200 for more info.
The biggest gain from the set-up you're running would be a torque converter. After that a set of lower gears to put the power to use. A shift kit will help with consistancy more than reducing ETs or raising your trap speed. See the many posts in the transmission forum concerning TCs, gearing and shift kits.
All those items must be matched to the primary intended use of the car and matched to each other for the best results. Do some research on each item before making any purchases, to ensure you get the right set up.
Temperature differences can make a huge difference as well. What was it like at the track when you ran a second quicker?

the track was super hot. the air temp was over 35.C. for some of you that may not be hot but it felt hot to me. i was watching the news coverage of the edmonton champ car race and they said that the track temp for them was close to 50.C, so i can't see it beeing much different out where i was.
to the others. i know that i am slow, i know that the mods did not do much, well they helped with fuel milelage. i will look in to the torque converter.

Track temps/conditions HIGHLY affect track times....
Also to really notice a difference in the 2200 open her up and let her breath. A Head, TB, and Intake combo do wonders on these engines! They're so restricted from factory it's insane! Same for the exhaust side of everything too.

when i had the OHV in my car I went from a 16.3 to a 15.7 with just a head port n polish (intake, full exhaust with 4:1 header, 2.25" pipe)
head work is the key to making more power
if you throw in a cam too it'll really pull decent

That surely had to hurt your performance. My Auto 2.2 with only a ID intake ran 17.432@77.93 best time.

end of the season im going to hit up the track and im hoping for around 16.5 with just an intake and muffler. More or less I could care less, springtime I say goodbye to the 2200.
i went back to the track. this time it was about ten degrees cooler. i was able to pick up one more mph so now it is sitting at 75.455mph. i was still in the 18.4 for the time. i would like to go faster, who woundn't, i will play around with it and see what i can do. if i can fins a head at a wreakers i will get that done.
mad jack. i looked into the TC, and shift kit but did not see where to order from and how much, any help in that area?
Sounds like the temp was really too high. I ran 17.79 in a stock 3sp-auto when it was about 75ºF outside. That's, what, 24 celsius? So that's a ton cooler than when you went! Wait for a cold day and it'll suddenly feel sooo much faster, haha.
I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.

The only thing I had out was my spare tire. All my interior was still in and I was riding on the steelies. Just like how I drive it around daily. The weather out was 40 with a realitive humidity of 37.

the car responds fairly decent to boltons, theres been plenty of posted track proof of that. slight other things do help as well as mentioned above.
the main things however as most said, temp outside. also the way you launch a car. gotta keep practicing and knowing when to let off a bit and let it shift, and when to stay on it.
ok, i believe you when you say that this guy did the 1/4 in 15. but i find it hard to believe, what i mean is i have about the same set up as him, and that is around 3 seconds faster. Event you mentioned that when going down the track you need to know when to let off. i had beed just floooring it and letting the car shift. is there a better way? any tips. i have my reaction times down to below .300 so that is doing good.
So, you are looking for a 3 speed shift kit and 1.6 roller rockers eh? I got something for you...lol talk about a cheezy line. I have the shift kit from J-Body Performance and roller rockers (used from Nitrus Nate), neither of which will be seeing my car since I just upgraded. $200 shipped if you want them.
i think that i would like to go for new parts when they are going into my motor. i have to use this as a daily driver. my wife would not like it if the car was down for awhile. thank you for the offer.

I ran my 2200 before boost 15.9 @ 87mph.........bone stock internally motor.... EVERY other bolt on you can buy....I had....
ported intake mani t62mm tb to full exhaust to pulley's to tb spacer... I had everything....................grounding kit, gutted, no back seats or interior panels......
and the 15.9 was my BEST ever... after like 100 runs over the first 2 years of owning my car.....

dam i just ran a 17.9 @ 65 mph the other night ...... and im in a 5 speed
i did spin most of 1st and half second though
oh i also have intake header and full 2.25 exhaust
my best run in my 2200 with intake + exhaust was a 16.7 (5 speed tranny). my boyfriend used hp tuners on it and tuned it, bumped up the timing almost 16 degrees before hitting knock, and also made WOT as soon as you punch it. Stock setting doesnt allow WOT until 5k RPMs... these engines are REALLY held back on stock settings. i ran a 16.3 after his tune, with a @!#$ty launch and bouncing off the rev limiter in 3rd before end of track... lol
2.4 + 5 speed = maybe an extra 1k after you sel your current 2.2.... ? Why not just sell and buy a Z.

what was your 60' like? that's really slow for a 2.2 with the three speed. I have made over 200 passes with mine and 150,000+ miles on the tranny , 60' should be a low 2.4s time. how do you launch, what tire pressure? even in the heat 90*F+ i can still run a 17.9 in my car. as far as consistancy goes you can't get a more consistant car....i can run 3 passes within 3 hundreths of a second. and still pulling a low .550 light with a .5 being perfect and .499 a red light.
