Hey guys,
Well, I hit the end of third gear and shift into forth before crossing the line. The guy in the s/c ION said to stay in 3rd and let it hit the limiter. He does that and it works for him. I didn't want to chance it, but it could be a 10th of a second or more that i'm looking for. UNfortunately, the run i tried it on, i had my highest mph 91.91 (spun too much off the line) and hit the 3rd limiter (bounced off it 3 times) then shifted into 4th before crossing the line for a 15.3 1/4. Usually, i'm fairly close the end to the line, but have time to shift into 4th bofore crossing.
Any opinions/experience? Would i be faster hitting limiter? Oh ya, the stock redline on a 2.4l is what, 6300rpm. I think i got one of those freak 2k+'s as i can go a couploe of hundred past redline. I usually try to shift just past redline to ensure i won't bounce off limiter between gears.

GET SMALLER TIRES !!!
I launch my BFGoodrich Drag Radials 205 50 15 @ 4000 RPM and here are my results. I Shift into 2nd at about 60'. I Shift into 3rd at about 330'. I Shift into 4th at about 660' (1/8 mile). I didn't check out your profile but the cheapest thing I did was to buy all of the poly bushings for the frond end of the car.
Thats all for now, let me know when you get that far.

shift to 4. 4 gear is a good gear.
I ran my 15.1's shifting into 4th.
smaller tires will help. yes youll shift at different times and youll be in 4th sooner but with the smaller tires 4th gear wont be so bad
The one, the only, ME.
If you wanna saty in 3rd get a TALLER tire, not shorter, it will drop your RPM's for about 200-300, which is about 2-3 mph every inch or so, the taller you get so you won't have to shift.

He does not need to stay in third. He needs to be in 4 gear. People do not understand 4 gear makes a lot of MPH.

I'd rather be hitting 4th sooner than have a taller 3rd, no question.
15.3 @ 89.97mph, 14's on the way?

Yeah, you gotta remember that putting on taller tires would be like reducing your final drive ratio.... not good for racing unless you're making so much power that the grippiest tires you can fit still can't hook. And no stockish 2.4 is gonna make that much. Smaller tires will effectively increase your FDR and actually give better acceleration... just try to keep them wide with a sticky compound, that way you don't lose grip.

Try short shifting your 3rd gear like 500rpm. So you can stay WOT across the line. Thats what gets me the best MPH in my car.

to me, it doesn't make any sense to stay in 3rd if you're bouncing off the limiter. Just doesn't seem like you'd be making any more power, so why not go to the next gear?
You're right red, it doesn't make any sense, because when you hit the limiter, your engine is bogging down and essentially engine-braking your car because its in gear.... its actually slowing you down. Shifting to 4th will be faster... but its better to get there sooner so you're not shifting a tenth of a second before you hit the traps.

when i hit 4th, there is plenty of room at the end of the track, so hitting 4th right at the traps is not something I have to worry about. I usually take 3rd to somewhere between 6000 and 6300 RPM.
I'm starting to think ive been shifting too high I always shift at 6500 but the motor really runs out of steam at 6000 I think i might try shifting into 4th at 6000 or so next time

Keep in mind you might not be making more power above 6k, but where is your RPM going to fall whenyou shift? You want to stay in the power band. You do not want to fall below the power band.

shifting at 6500 falls right back down to 4000, im not sure how my power band is now but before boost it felt much the same feels like theres more power between 3500-4000 than 6000-6500
