I asked this in the wheels forum, but I think it is better here.
Is anyone at the track, running two stock spares out back?
On the street I have (4) 15"ers, with a full size 15" spare in the trunk. At the track I would like to just run two 15's up front ( 195/65/15), and then the two (small and skinney) spares out back.
Is there anything wrong with this set-up for 1/4 mile use ?
these tires say don't drive over like 60mph, so near the end of a 1/4 mile, will there be almost no traction out back?
I have never been to Sacramento raceway, but my boy wants to take his 04cobra, so I want to go and see what my time is.
I've got a gutted interior, aem cAi, pacesetter, and cat-back, with upgraded plugs and wires, b&m shortshifter. I was trying to run the spares to hopefully save a little weight.
its against NHRA and IHRA rules to races with spares on the front or rear. in other words you probably wont be allowed to do it. just inflate your rears to like 40-45PSI and youll be fine.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

I think the reason why the spares are not allowed is because the type of tires that are on the rim it self. If you changed the tire out and put a better speed rating tire you woudl be fine... but if you really think about it.. the sapre is not light weight.. its heavy as hell....

Just like everyone else said.... Have you ever tried to drive home with those little doughnuts on your car? It feels like its gonna fly off the road at 50mph, much less the 80+ you're hitting at the track. Plus, they're not any lighter than the stock wheels. If you want light rims for the rear pick up some bogarts or some weld racing rims. Not cheap, but definitely safer and more worth your while than the spares.

Those tires are speed rated at 50-55 mph, and even then only for short periods of time. You won't be allowed to run them guaranteed.

Hey Mackadocious are you in the Sacramento area? If so look in the local forums. We meet every so often. I just went to the Sac. Raceway last week. Anyways, make a post about when u go in the local forum and a couple of us might go too.
I agress, those spares seem to weigh a lot. I would just get some 14 inch steelies with some tires on it that are safe to use.
yeah I already got 4 steelies, and I guess I should take the extra spare I just bought back to the Rancho recycleries ( $45). thanks for the info. I just saw some weld lights in a magazine gravana sent with my R. strut brace, and the gold circle pattern rims the K&N teams use ( like abel ibarra), but there were no prices?
while I am on it.
My car has the 15" rims. What size drag rims are you guys running? Also what size front 22"? 24"? and is that X 10" ? What about skinneys in the back?
As you can tell I know nothing about official NHRA-type sanctioned rules.
Do I have to have a shutoff switch for the battery, etc.?
I thought they were making an effort so that you could go to the track damn near stock( even though I am not stock) , and still have fun, so people won't street race.
I think I would be in the fourteen/ thirteen ( I doubt it) second range.
thanks again, and to you Nothern Kalifoolya Mackramento cuttthoats I'll check out the local link
you can race your car stock........ that doesnt mean w/ spare tires.......
if your going with a Slick...... 24.5" x 8" x 15"
if your going with a Drag Radial........ 225/50-15"
use your stock steelies in the back, 40-45lbs of air.
you dont need a battery cut off, unless your battery is in your trunk.
