new time slips :( they suck

well i have a 2002 cavalier ls sport with the 2.2 ecotec 5 speed.... the mods i have done are a ractive muffler with 2.25 inch pipe from resinator back, k and n air filter, b and m short throw shifter. i had my 18's on during the race and full interior and i left the spare tire in and everything. i am thinking what hurt me was the 18's and the extra weight in the trunk. i will post them here and let me know what you think i dont have em scaned yet but i can if you want me too. these are 3 out of 15 runs i did. the weather was 75 degrees and 100 percent humidity. here they are

RUN 1

R/T 0.435
60' 2.481
1/8 10.534
mph 66.795

1/4 16.350
mph 85.807

RUN 2

that aint too bad considering you had your 18s on at the timeput like 16s back on or even 15s, take out your spare tire and jack and you could see an improvement

yea i am going to try that next time i go run... would your recomend lowering air pressure in the tires when i put the stockers on? and what rpm would everyone recomend me launch at? i tried to launch like i do on the street at 2k rppm and all it did was bog.... then i went to 2800 and wheel hoped some

Wow even with the 18's and the spare and all that why are your 60's so bad? Considering how far off all three are I'm going to take the guess that you are spinning like crazy at launch. Maybe it is time you look into feather clutching at your launch? I had the same problem at first and even with everythign in the car you should see 2.2-2.3 60's otherwise something else is off.

As a recomendation for launch I launch around 3,000 RPM and like I said feather it off. So far on my 2005 my best time is a 15.3 and I have been averaging 15.5's with similar weather conditions but at like 100 feet or less. I say work on that feather clutching and you should be able to get your times down.

BTW I don't take anything out of my car to race I even keep my 100 lb sub box in the trunk . Would be scary to see what happens if I stripped the weight down. Hell I'm scared to even modify the car considering all I have is a drop in filter lol.

The single most important part of racing is the launch...it will make it or break it.

2.2 60's are normal....just get more practice.

its rough, i've gone over this in multiple threads, someone should make a sticky of this lol....

once staged you want to rev up to your launch rpm (different for every engine/set of tires/transmission/etc..), start at maybe 3K or so and try and figure it out from there. Let the clutch out until just before it grabs (helps R/T and if you do screw up it won't be as much of a shock to the tires and will help at least a little in recovering grip). When the third amber light goes down, you want to come off the clutch while starting to depress the throttle. DO NOT drop the clutch. You're trying to get the clutch all the way out, and the throttle all the way down as fast as possible WITHOUT breaking the tires loose (chirp or very little spin is ok). Basically, fast enough where the engine doesn't bog, and slow enough where you won't spin. It's really tricky to find that point, and everytime you do a significant mod it may change. Practice is all you can do. Go to the track as often as possible, and focus on every run. Don't worry about the guy next to you, or anything else, just focus on what you have to do to get the car down the track. As far as shifting goes, rev it out as high as you can without hitting rev limiter, and shift as quickly as possible (obviously). If you're adventurous enough, don't take your foot off the gas on the shift, just kick the clutch and shift it really quick. NOTE: I am not responsible for any clutch damage that may occur. Powershifting is really rough on the trans so be aware of that, but it IS the fastest way down the track.

I think thats about all i can think of right now, i'm off to go see what some of my new mods put down myself (and since i have a new clutch and lighter flywheel, i'll be spending tonight relearning my launches too).
