Hi there, I made an account solely to ask this, I am just having no luck. I have a 2000 cavalier with a 5 speed manual. The cast aluminum cap, that the shift linkage attaches to to control the transmission, broke. I can find absolutely no information on what this part would be called, or if I can even buy a replacement one. I have scoured the local salvage yard and they don't have a single manual cavalier. Can anyone help me out?

Hi and welcome to JBO.
Maybe take it to your local Chevrolet Parts Department and have them look it up. They should be able to tell you what it is and a part number for it. If it is still available they can order it for you. If not, at least you'll know what to hunt for on the web.
Found this online, seems they call the entire assembly a "shifter"
If it's just the shift arm that's broke, I know they make aftermarket ones, as long as the cover shaft and everything else is fine
You should have a Getreg F23 transmission in your car, and if my memory serves me correctly, its the M86 variation
I hope thats of some help
