I on Saturday purchased a 2000 Chevy Cavalier base, body needs some love and paint. Runs smoothly, no issues or hitches accelerating. It is a 5 speed with a 2.2 motor. I have most of my driving experience always had a v6 or v8 automatic though I can drive standard an prefer it. This is my first Chevrolet and 5th vehicle owned, of course not the first one I have driven. It has 150k miles on it over all, the head was replaced new at 100k miles. New brakes in the last 4 weeks. Sitting on 18in rims, with the stock aluminum rims with the deal I spent 1400 after finding out some more issues below.
It came with a nice little deck of issues. We did a good long extensive test drive in Tulsa traffic around lunch time, not issues cropped up. I found out about the brakes/signals and hazards as we were about to swap cash an title. Dumb of me not to check this right off from the start. They were not working, even I messed on this cause during inspection we found out some wiring harness "sabotage" I call it. Looks like someone inexperienced tried patching wires in. Turns out the brakes and hazards issue was a blown fuse to start. We followed the previous owners advice about the new "radio" being installed being the start of the the gauge issue I also adopted. They flash on/off an work/stall/stop working appropriately. We double checked the radios wiring, got it wired in properly and adjusted so it has a hot coming straight from the battery when we did an oops and tripped the Passlock 2 system. I only know this after hours of searching, going over anything that could help me soft relearn the anti theft. Eventually found a proper guide to retrain and it worked.
Anyways, hello I am not often a person who gets heavily into cars, but I can generally do repairs/tune ups. I haven't rebuilt a motor in years an then it was just a rebuild kit. This car caught my eye, for the right price and I couldnt pass it up and I suspect it will become a project car for myself. Pleasure to meet you and glad I found info on this site that may help me rewire the chopped harness I have though I suspect I will most likely have to go an salvage the dash harness anyways. Only reason we were working on it was due to shorted wires from previous owner.
I forgot to take photos, Easter weekend in all. This I snapped on way to the Easter festivities while i was in a pissed off I broke my new ride mood.
Over reacted and well, we all know how that goes. In the end, with some calm thinking an some serious research not distracted I turned out to be the culprit in reprogramming anti theft.
