Hey all I just bought a 2001 z24 5 speed with 178,000 on the clock for 500. Shes a california car with no rust and all original everything.The body has a few dings and i def have a collapsed lifter cuz she ticks but the tick goes away on the highway and above 2400 rpm. This is my first domestic car, and im pretty impressed with how it drives so far. Ive chirped in third with a less than stellar clutch. I look forward to contributing and taking advice from you guys!
We dont have lifters as such to collapse in the way that your thinking. We have followers since its dohc
The ticking is most likely related to the timing chain. Most of the time its the timing tensioner thats making the noise. Get the revised version and if you got the cash replace the timing set but sometimes just replacing the tensioner will fix the noise.
