I have a 98 cavalier and I was wondering with the stock 2200 what hp gains woul a header exhaust and cold air make? and I also have a 96 cavalier i was wondering how hard it would be to swap the 2200 it has now to a 2.2 etec i know tranny mounts an few other odds and ends. What else is required?
A header and an intake wont gain you much since the intake and exhaust ports in the head are a gigaintic bottle neck.
For an Eco swap in a pre-2000 car you have to rewire EVERYTHING. Basically you make your car into a 2000 as far as wiring is concerned.
you would be better off swapping in an ld9 or 3*00 v6 engine

You're
always better off doing this over an ecotec

A few odds and ends doesn't even begin to describe it...
Motor, trans, all motor/tranny mounts, ENTIRE wiring harness (engine and interior dash), ECU, BCM, the whole dash framework (plastic dash frame that supports the bezel and upper pad, as well as the metal frame support), instrument cluster, radiator (along with hoses), gas tank, fuel lines (front to back), EVAP system, whole exhaust system, almost all sensors w/ wiring, and then some odds and ends.
Basically, if you want and Ecotec without a headache of a swap, either buy a Cav with an eco in it already, or get yourself a 2000+ to swap into.
I've done about a dozen Eco swaps and I don't think I'd want the hassle of a pre 00 Eco swap.

I just want to find out a way to run an Eco off of a pre-2000 PCM.
