I'm actually here because I've started to help perform maintenance and minor repairs on my daughter's 1999 Sunfire. I have a fair amount of car experience and I take care of my own 2001 Ford Crown Victoria.
I'm going to do an oil change soon (about 3k miles). Also, it sounds like the front driver's-side wheel bearing is bad. I already have the bearing/hub assembly. I've read conflicting instructions on changing it. The Haynes manual says to remove the caliper, knuckle, sway bar and possibly even the axle. On Youtube, I saw a video showing to just remove caliper, the hub 30mm hub nut, and the 4 T55 torx bolts. Sounds pretty easy...is it really?
Thanks
Forgot to mention, the car has somewhere around 70,000 miles.
pretty sure there's no need to take all that off. take off the caliper and the hub nut and you should be golden from there.
by the way, welcome to the site!
From So Cal myself, and yes, I have read the same instructions as blucavvy. I just spent $280 on a DIY brak job, and don't want my nice, new racing brakes to fail me becausse of bad bearings. have 93k on mine, and am afraid the bearings may be going, and looked into pricing and instructions on removing. I read exactly what you said the you tube video described. Mines a 2003 Cavalier though so it's possibly different on the earlier Sunfire. You'll know when you get into it. As an experienced backyard mechanic, you know the old saying, something allways makes the job more difficult than you thought it would be, at least that's my experience.
all you need to do to replace a hub is remove your caliper, then the rotor. remove the middle axel nut and then the 3 torx bits. no need to remove any thing else.
