04 2.2 ecotec. Have never had any engine problems so far with this car, it has 60k miles. i just moved from redding to san jose and yesterday i went for a cruise and it came on. Disconnected battery, still on. Im pretty sure its not my gas cap, as i always click it a thousand times and it didnt come on for the 4 hour drive. I also have my exhaust cut off right after rear axle, and its been like that for a while, havent gotten around to getting custom muffler welded on, could this affect the o2 sensor?
just go to your local auto parts store and have the code read... its free...

That's how CEL's work. The light tells you that something isnt right and you need to read the codes that have been stored in the computer. Once we know the codes, then we can help. You just tell us that your CEL is on, we'll tell you "great, now what do you want us to do".
Got it checked out, said there was large evaporator leak. i did notice this morning when i went to get gas(first time in 5 days) the cap came right off...almost think someone might have tampered with it as i always click it at least 5 times when i put it on. Also that metal flap inside is not flat, it's like it was bent upwards and is now at an angle. Guy reset it, and hasnt come on since so hoping that was the problem.
Hmm, evap codes can be tricky.
Those are signs of siphon. Luckily, our cars as well as many others have things that stop that from happening.

One of the first things I bought for my car was a locking gas cap.
Couldn't sleep at night thinking anyone could just drop anything in there.
Always had cars with locking gas doors, probably a good thing to have on all vehicles to avoid siphoning/sabotage.
its probably your oxygen sensor. everytime my light goes on its always the oxygen sensor. check that...oh and removing the battery doesnt solve anything. i have a cimarron and 1998 z28...the 98 has major sensor issues. lol

Yeah those are signs of an attempted siphon. Luckily, nearly all cars these days and for some time have anti-siphon valves.
