Hi,
I want to know the ideal engine temp for chevy cavalier 2002 2.2L engine. My car temp gauge shots up till 195F after 5 minutes of starting...and then while driving it cruises between 195-210F range. It generally move upwards when I am stopped at the red light/traffic..then comes down little but never comes below 195F...A/c is not ON when this thing is happening.......Is thing is normal? or something is wrong with it.......Is this is due to some head gasket problem or something major?
Please help!
Thanks,
Sam

It rises when you are stopped because our cooling systems suck at best.

if I drive mine in town long enough it will die! I let it sit for about 30 min. and I can restart and drive with no problems until it heats up agian. Mine has been doing this for about 3 years now but I only drive it about 20 miles a day at the most and it sits on weekends if anyone has any insight to this let me know. I have changed everything. Coolant, thermostat, sensors. DEX-Cool SUCKS!
I ran my old cavalier without a cooling fan for a bit... Long as the car was moving it was fine lol.
My cavalier sits at 200-210 100% of the time. Coolant has at most 200 miles on it. Cooling system sucks lol

My '99 2.2L doesn't mind being stopped at a redlight. Takes it a while before the temp starts creeping up. My '94 2.2L is a different story though. Also noticed the radiator is noticeably smaller on the '94 plus the fins of the radiator need to be cleaned. I keep the A/C on though so the fan is on anyway.
never had a prob with an eco
OHVs seem to love to overheat.
operating temperature is 195*-200* on most, if not all internal combustion engines
I changed the thermostat, water pump but still it cross 210F and some time almost touching the red mark......but no white smoke is coming from tail pipe.........
Apart from this very strange problem has started when switch on the A/C rpm fluctuates up and down as i switched off the a/c RPM fluctuation stop...
Any idea why my car is having these 2 problems......
It's possible combusion gasses are getting into the coolant system which would heat it up. Blown headgasket isn't always oil and water mixing or smoking.
