New here and a few questions
Tuesday, June 02, 2009 4:59 AM
So tomorrow I am picking up my 2000 z24 5 speed thats silver. A friend and I have driven cavaliers for a few years now. I love them. I currently have a 2000 red LS 4 door and thought hey I need a nice car for when I graduate college and found a crazy deal on this z24. Has 99k miles on it and was a summer driver mostly. I know the kid I go to college with him. I got the car for 2000.... yeah 2k I think thats a pretty good deal.

But yeah just wondering what would be the most effective and cheapest mods. As I said I am in college so I don't have crazy amounts of money to spend (considering its 1600 a year to insure this puppy) I just want to bet somthing that makes my car standout not only in looks but I love sleepers. Any ideas?

Keep it bone stock. Change the oil regularly. Save the money until you graduate.

Well I want to make it stick out a little more. I was thinking of tinting windows and adding exhaust system but those can be pretty expensive. Just wondering what is the cheapest upgrade for the biggest effect. I would like to make it faster but I want it to look nice too. I don't want to spend more than 500 dollars or so this year on it.

This may very well be the best piece of advice you'll get while in College.

Yeah I saved up to buy the car this summer. I had to put a new engine, clutch kit, lines, fuel filter, struts, and brakes in. So I spent all my extra cash on that. I was looking to spend under 500 this summer then about 2 grand next summer. I go to the university of maine orono where do you go to college?

The first thing I really done to my 99 Z was getting a catback exhaust. I only spent around 200 on it, just ordered a magnaflow muffler online and had a local exhaust shop to shape up a 2 1/2 inch pipe for it. I personally would go that route, it will look better with a nice tip and sound better too without breaking your wallet. Maybe after that get an intake and window tent for it. All that should still be under 500.

the most dramatic effect for under 500 would be a used suspension system and drop it.
