Hello, I have a 96 2.2L and I believe the water pump needs to be changed as it is leaking a small amount. I have never done this before is it hard to do? Does it take like 7 hours? Do you have to do the timing as well? Would I be better taking it somewhere? Thanks
It doesn't take that long to do. You don't have to mess with the timing or anything. You basically remove the belt and unbolt the water pump and the water pump pulley. You'll also need to keep the pulley still to unbolt it. Then bolt the old pulley onto the new pump and then you'll be set.

when i was changing my water pump in my 2.4 i was like damn i wished i had a 2.2
leave the belt on, break loose the three water pump pulley bolts, then take off the belt, alternator, then the water pump pulley, then the pump. take off the water neck while you're there and change the thermostat (delco only) and gasket. to reinstall, put the old pulley on the pump, the pump on with the engine with the new gasket, reinstall the alternator, reinstall the belt, and you're done. if you clean the surfaces properly, you will not need silicone. i prefer to use just the gaskets on a clean surface, as they tend to not leak as much as gaskets that have been siliconed.
