My new car

Trying a test posting pictures. If this all works great, here is my new car, if it doesn't i will try to post again... Not sure if there is a "test" forum or not, but I will await information if i need to post somewhere else next time.

So here is the new J-car I just picked up tonight. I love it already. The old J-car i had was a 1998 2.2l so this 2000 Z24 is much nicer. Power everything, Power top. Guy that I bought it from said its kinda rare. Its got a power retracting top with a real glass rear window. I haven't checked into the numbers but he said it was a semi-rare car. I am going to try to post up some pictures. New to this so don't burn me too much.

Interior, yes it has the cracked dash

Sorry for the small pictures. I will get some better pictures tomorrow when the sun comes back up.

Let me know what you all think. I have big hopes for this car. Let me know if you have any great ideas for a convertible. Or if you have a bad bad cavalier convertible let me know so i can check out what all you have done to your car.

Thanks for looking and God Bless.

p.s. Looking for someone to work on a sig for me.

I have tons of things I want to do to the car, but we will see what finances allow. Let me ask this, i am sure after i post this and search someone has probably covered it before, but does it make more sense to go with a supercharger for an automatic than a turbo, since with the auto at the line you can't hold the clutch in and spool up the turbo? Not sure if this is a stupid question, but I figure it is worth asking.

Want to do something with the doors, want a body kit, new rims, nice booming stereo system.

Am probably going to rock black and blue interior, going to eventually paint the outside black to attain the triple black Z.

Ryan, you started project GTC, I think I am going to call it Project TBZ.

But I don't think it will take the Project for a while. Not until I get into the Army and start to generate a little income. Then I will start playing with it a whole lot more.

Thanks for the kinds words all. If you got any wild crazy ideas that come to mind with a droptop, let me know.

I remember "CloneHappy's" car. I loved the look of that car. Nice big vert with a middle sized wing that worked well with the body line. But I am kinda leaning towards going all black not a multiple tone paint job. Let me know what you think. If possible I got a guy to paint the car for me. He is really good here locally. Does more custom paint than anyone in the area. Its not cheap but he makes all his money on pinstriping motorcycles. So a custom project like this is different for him.

just a little side note, if you set a turbo up right, you can spool right into power band with an auto. Hold the brake in and push the gas. With a torque converter upgrade you can get it around 3,000 rpm.

Thanks CorKey, didn't realize that would work the same way.

Well, the '00 was the last year for the J-body convertible and the source I found at the V6Z24.com site says there were 5,420 Cavi 'verts built compared to nearly 298,000 combined coupes and sedans. And, the '00 J-Bodies got a lot of significant system upgrades that make them desireable in general. Sounds like you have lots of custom ideas in mind, but if you plan to keep the car for a length of time you should consider gathering up some of the unique parts the 'verts don't share with the other bodies. This would include things like the electric top motors (there's a pair of them on eBay now), electric door window regulators (unique to the 'vert and not available as aftermarket, as near as I've found), the doors themselves, the trunk hinges and gas supports, the top switch and handle, any weatherstrip parts, etc.. There are quite a few 'vert specific items, many are common to all Third Gen models and they'll do nothing but get more scarce as time goes by. Also, take a look at the Third Gen forum and get a copy of the convertible supplement sticky there as it has a lot of great 'vert specific repair info that's applicable to all the Third Gen 'verts. Good luck. - Mark

Yea, all you need is a torque converter with a higher stall speed.

BIGGER PICS PLEASE!

oh goodie another RED Z vert.. let the games begin. RARE because 2000 was the only year made with the 3rd gen 2nd phase headlights.

AZN what exactly do you mean 3rd gen, 2nd phase headlights? I will also search for this, but If you answer it that would work too.

3rd gen means the 3rd generation of the J-body.(95-05) Phases break down the model years even more. Phase 1 is 95-99, phase 2 is 00-02, and phase 3 is 03-05.

thanks Tinkles, I am learning more about J-bodies every day. I am going to order some extra headlights and try to make a set of projectors. Want HIDs but I don't want to be blinding folks with using a HID ballast in a standard headlight housing. I read on the forum that is bad and most times illegal. How hard is it to aim them? Thats my only worry. Making sure to aim the projector properly.

Not really sure if a 2000 z24 is really all that rare. I see them all the time on EBay. I have the same car with only 50K miles and have had it since 2003. The only thing I changed were the tiny 15 inch wheels and put on 16 inchs chrome cavalier rims. My dash is cracked at the very top at the windshield. The dealer wants 500.00 for the part..NOT.

The 2000 vert is kinda rare b/c its the last year of the vert.
As for mods go dude, I'd say go with a black interior, put a full LS sport lip/body kit on it, drop it, 17 or 18" rims, whatever engine mods you desire, and call it a day.
