LD9 + Underdrive Pulley = how much slack

This question isn't for me and I can't see the car personally, otherwise I'd be able to help a bit...

The crank pulley that is going on is about 3/4" smaller diameter than stock. Question is, will the stock tensioner be able to handle the slack caused by the smaller crank pulley, or should a shorter belt be purchased?

The engine is currently out of the car and the AC compressor is still hooked up to the lines holding the refrigerant in so that option's out

Strange you ask Kardain, I have the exact same issue.

Heres my calculations, and im not sure if i did them right

assuming the pulley is a little more than 3/4 of an inch bigger (for calculation purposes) and rather it is .8 of an inch bigger.

the circumference of a circle is RXRXPi which equals

0.4 X 0.4 X 3.14
which comes out to
0.5024,

which translates roughly into a half inch. So...if the Idler can take up a good half inch, then it SHOULD be ok, and the way i figure, it doesn't even have to take up that much, since the belt doesn't go completely around the pulley, rather goes about 2/3, which translates to this

.5024 X .66 = .331584. which equals

1/3rd of an inch.

so, unless im smoking crack, it should be able to handle it. Hopefully i calculated right,. Anyone else have any input?

circumference is 2*pi*r, or pi*d

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circumference

meaning the .75 diameter difference will have a circum difference of 2.3561925" (2.25 or 2.5" depending on how belts are manufactured)

pi*r^2 (what you did) is area

oh, i knew it was somethin like that

might think about shortening it up bout 2 inches. ill have to go over and get my exact measurements and do the math.

You'll need a smaller belt. The stock tensioner will not take up that much slack.

Kardin, if it is an E-bay crank pulley. Please ensure it is not out of round.

This is actaully a crappy one from ebay that I had to do hours of machine work to get the way it should be......seriously they are crap and waaaaayyy out of round.
