i have a 2001 cavalier and every time i shift into 2nd i hear a grinding noise but its only when i shift into 2nd so i dont tink its my tranny. Any suggestions anybody?
I could be wrong, but I don't think it's the throw out bearing... when mine went in my Sunfire and I'd press on the clutch, just press on the clutch... it sounded like a baseball card stuck in bicycle spokes.
Synchros maybe??
if your throw out bearing is bad, like nikki said you would hear clutch chatter whenever the clutch wasnt pushed in. im going to have to agree and say synchros
oh ok well i dunno my clutch desnt make a sound and its perfect not to hard or soft and its really smooth and theres no noise wen i push it in or out. The only problem is when im shifting from 1st to 2nd ill let the clutch out to soon or fast and ill hear a grinding noise.
It sounds like your 2nd gear syncro is worn out, or you aren't completely disengaging the clutch when you shift into second. Most likely the syncro though. Just go easy on it unless you want to rebuild the tranny.
