This one really got me thinking. I've been searching for two hours now.

The current concensus in my neck of the woods is that sticker is an in-house bar code either for that particular engine/trans combo or possibly and inspection sticker identifying the inspector and/or the date of testing. The only thing AA9 keeps pointing to is an RPO code for rear window trim. It's not the manufacturing plant as that's encoded in the VIN as a single letter or digit. I'll bet that when GM decides how many of a particular engine/trans combo it's going to put in a certain body they tag them on assembly for easy id as they're installed.

Some sort of GM-internal identification. Odds are, it isn't related to anything vehicle specific, other than maybe build dates or engine part lots.

So this sticker isn't on everyones car? Well I'm glad i don't look like an idiot. When i was in college we were tough that sometimes there are defects in the manufacturing process, such as engine blocks having to be bored slightly over, and the manufacture has to identify it. Other then that i don't know, all i came up with has interior part numbers. The car seems like everyother one i've seen. Thanks for the help. heres another pic of the engine bay, i still need to clean it up

That's what peaked my curiousity. I remember an old Beretta an ex-girlfriend used to have with the 2.2L that had a similar sticker on the valve cover. I never knew exactly what it meant but at the time I was a super newbie and didn't really pay too much attention until you posted the pic and I remembered that's almost exactly what the engine bay on the Beretta looked like. I had removed the sticker while changing the valve cover gasket and cleaning up the valve cover with a quick coat of Krylon.
