hey getting a 5 speed 96 z24 with a 2.4 in it. just curiouse before i start doign things to it if there are any big problems with the car/ or any personel expirences you all have had with them. i hear the trannys are pretty crappy but then some one else said they are really good... so im kina bouncing around on what to think about them. ther reviews on the web dont say much. pretty much one sided on either side. so any information would be great. also i would like to hear some opinions on things that would look good as far as doing some aftermarket things to the car as well as performance mods that are a "good" investment. thanks . and again just wanna get some info and any thing would be appreciated. good or bad,
Nate Landaas

Problems with the car:
Notorious Water Pump failure
Notorious rod bearing number 3 failer do to insufficient oiling, basically will send the rod through the block, and motor is ka-put. Highly suggest very regular oil changes to keep things top notch.
Transmission in 96-99, i am not a fan of, they have been known for awful differentials and spyder gears. The only good thing is that you can easily swap gears, and also get spyder gears froma geo storm 5 spd.

yup those are the 2 main problems. the water pump is a bitch because its behind the motor. you can change it yourself but its a weekend type project. if you take it somewhere be prepared to pay 600-800 easily if not more
