no, a '97 2.2l does not have a tuner tube (i should know).

also, the intake resonator (aka 'bong') is an air baffle on the underside of the stock air box. trust me, you won't notice a difference without it, but it doesn't hurt to remove, and you might as well take it off if you plan on putting an intake on your car.

if you want simple and louder (not sure why you'd want louder), get an intake and aftermarket muffler. both are pretty simple, and not too expensive.

my advice though: save up for good mods, not just cheap junk cause it's quick and easy.

Cannon Fodder's right on this one. In the car world you get what you pay for. That doesn't mean that you can't go the cheap"er" route though. If you want your car to sound a little beefier, just look for a cheap intake on eBay. I got mine for about $30 after shipping. It won't really give you much of a performance boost, unless you get your exhaust done as well, but it does make it sound better.

I would highly recommend getting some aftermarket spark plugs and spark plug wires. I'm using NGK Iridium IX plugs, which i got on eBay for $30, and I bought some wires at gravatuning.com for about $40. I think this made a bigger difference in peformance than my intake did.

I would argue that these are the cheapest mods that you can do under the hood that will actually be affective.

x3 its better to save up for 2 or 3 high quality parts that will perform well and last long rather then buying a bunch of useless el cheapo parts that will break in 10 minutes and make your car look like ding dong. an intake and a cat-back/muffler are good starting points might pick-up 4-5 horse between the two. not much of a boost but its a start. make sure you pick up a quality muffler like borla, magnaflow, dynomax or flowmaster if you want it to sound mean. oh and don't forget to lower it

People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......
