New to J-body. and a small request! :D

Heeeeeey Everybody.

I'm new to the org, but i've been lurking around for a bit, used to have a 95' Black Sunfire, until i lost control in the snow and got owned by a semi and a SUV.. i kicked my door off and got out fast enough to watch the rear wheel roll out into the highway and get hit by another car. damnit. lol

However, i now drive a 2002 Canary Yellow Cavalier LS Sport 5-speed (2.2L Ecotec) . i know my way around the car a little bit, but not too serious to the point where i can do alot of mods by myself(i can do brakes, plugs, simple maintaing of my vehicle ), hopefully my step-dad and a few of my friends are gonna help me in the future. but i do some searching, and although i read a few guides, it would be cool to get a few of the seasoned members's opinions on What performance based mods are best to start with first...? (Also, i bought the car with a Magnaflow Muffler, but i haven't really gotten under the car to see whats going on down there, or if its just a damn foldgers can on the bottom)... So, i call out to you veteran's of J-bodies everywhere, Could you give me all your opinions on what can be done. like i said i AM a newb, and learning is gonna be key here for me, because i've gotten so big into how cars work, power etc. but i really know very little mechanically, other than basic stuff.

Either way. Thanks much for your help :o

sorry i dont know a whole lot about the ecos but im sure most people are going to say header intake and exaust. you have the magnaflow great. but what all performance wise are you trying to accomplish any goals or just add a little bit? sounds like a great start put up some pics for us and fill out your profile a bit more besides your birthday but welcome.

there's not really a specific mod that is good to start with. it depends on you. for example you can go with a cold air intake or start with a header. there's just so much you can do. just go to places like nopi.com and go to the e-cat and look at what's there. for example you might be browsing and you'd be like "hey! underdrive pulleys i think i'll go with that." just browse and you'll see something. www.gravanatuning.com is a good place to look for stuff.

Tila Tequila? PPSSSSSHHH she's got nothing on me, except i'm not a porn star. and that's ok.

First mod would be to read the FAQ, second mod would be to learn how to use the search button since the "what should I do first" post has been written so many times it's not funny anymore. and 3rd mod would be to ask once you have read the FAQ, search for your answers and still don't have an answer.

Also, questions like these are for the newbies forum.

Heres some sites to look at for performance parts. there are more sites if you look but i was just looking at these 2.

http://www.turbotechracing.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=63
http://www.gravanatuning.com/applications/2002_Chevrolet_Cavalier_Coupe_2.2_16v.aspx

You can get a good idea of some products and make your decisions.

I want to share something with you - the three sentences that will get you through life. Number one, 'cover for me', Number two, 'oh, good idea, boss', Number three, 'it was like that when I got here.'

Hey now, i know the search feature. but each person looks at the forum at a different time. new parts come out, and new companys and new members post their opinions as well

Either way, thanks for the warm welcome from most of you, and the sites will help.

As for the pictures, my car is really dirty at the moment... being in Detroit, Michigan for work and whatnot and driving in the snow kinda sucks. so as soon as i get time to watch and take photos, hopefully in the next few weeks i'll post a few (maybe i'll wash it tonight just so i can get a few pics up here )

best advice i can offer performance wise is definately intake, exhaust and header. after that, u may wanna look into engine mounts and tranny mounts(if its stick).

those are all your basic bolt ons.

Although the posts are written so many times, and yeah, i posted one, i still did use the search function and lurked around before making my own post. and although there was information in everyone else's post. it is still easier to have my own, where i can ask my own questions, and get answers rather than hijack someone else's dead thread and bump it back up to the top as trash. So i'm sorry for repeating a question asked a multitude of times. I felt my own thread would help me to understand, ask questions, and get answers pertaining to things i am curious about.

=] I look forward to everyones input, and appreciate any feedback to the questions i ask all of you. and hopefully my knowledge can grow and i can be the one telling people to use the search function =o

it really depends on where you want to go, how much money are you willing to spend, are you looking for race, do you want to tune it, etc.

i went intake + exhaust first, like most do. but now that im turboing it, i need a slightly bigger exhaust and dont need the intake (still might use part of it - not sure yet) but if i planned on turboing it right off, i could have saved a bit of money and time, right off the bat. and i also am a huge fan of HP Tuners. Just advancing the timing on my car dropped me over a half a second on the 1/4 mile (from a perfect run without the tune - to a @!#$ty run with the tune) so that was a huge improvement alone could have almost reached a full second just from that alone.

so really it comes down to, what you are looking for. just a little performance gains? or big ones? and then go from there.
