I'm going to the strip tomorrow and wanted to know the best RPM to launch at. I have a DEAD STOCK 02 Sunfire 2200 5sp. I mean STOCK, guys. Right down to the all season tires, stock shifter, paper OEM air filter, and muffler. STOCK!
I've tried on some fresh laid tarmac and I'm giving a guess at about 2500 rpm while dumping the clutch and then flooring it. I get a little bark. Should I be looking for a little more spin so I'm not bogging the engine out.
Any suggestions. This will be my first time slip.
With the 2200 I'd reccomend only a 2k launch.

I believe it has less to do with your motor and more to do with your drivetrain (especially axles). Revving too high and drop the clutch, that could be too much sudden power hitting the axles, this is how people break axles. Of course, this is worse case scenario. More than likely now, if you rev too high, you'll probably just spin too much off the line.

Power? What is the 2200 'power' you speak of?
haha man.. poor 2200.
Let the guy run what he wants, it's all for fun anyways.
haha. lol. Funny.
One day know one will be laughing.
I just wanted a time for baseline, so I can compare later when I mod.
PS - We're suppose to be Jbody brothers here. Less flaming, more info.
PPS - I ran a 11.057 in an 1/8. Dead stock, no mods at all.
My reaction was .985. But, first time down any track ever!
If I can practice, and get consistant .500 reactions, I should run 10.6. There were 5.0s and Civics running mid and low 10s with a .260 react.

2.4 and ecos are brothers the 2200 is the little sister....whith a limp.
BTW about the launch. its preety much self explanitory. launch at the higesht rpm you can with out spinging to much. also besides evreything bad about it, the ohv is a torque box. those little things are little neck snappers.

I could swap you my worn out clutch. You wouldn't have to worry about bogging or tire spinning, problem solved.
You could try lowering the pressure in the front tires a bit. Reaction times shouldn't affect your e/t, just who gets to the end first. From what I understand it's mostly the first 60 feet that determine your final time.

^^ I've heard that, too. Oh well, stuck with 11.057 for now. I just ordered a muffler, CAI, and 4-1 Header, so maybe that will help. Tires, wheels, and a short throw shifter next.

10.8 here with a .019 RT.

R/T dont mean jack when racing. but if you are doing a bracket race, then the quicker R/T you have, the better
