help with cold air install
Friday, March 03, 2006 9:10 AM
ok I definatly belong on this part fo the forum. I just bought the car last week ('96 z24) and then I just bought a cold air intake off ebay. I got it from option racing if that helps at all. My question is can anyone help me with the installation with pictures and/or step by step instructions?

My first big question is do I remove the stock air box? If so how?

Any info will help alot.

You will remove the stock airbox, intake hose, I believe there is also a tuner tube to remove as well (I have a 2.2 so I don't know). On all Cavaliers, right under the stock air box there is a second piece of the stock air box. In order to run the new intake into th efender well that part must be removed. I believe you simply remove the left wheel, pull out the inner fender, and unbolt the "bong" as we call it from th ewiper fluid tank, and pull it out. Then run the pipe for the CAI down through that opening in th ebattery tray.

I got all the way to the 2nd half of the air box but could not get that out how do I do that. I also noticed that there was no spot on the stock air box for the breather hose. Where is the stock one located?

I'm not sure where the PCV breather vents on the 2.4 but if you trace it from the valve cover you can find where it connects to the intake, it's on the intake tube on the 2.2, so probably the samew place. The second half of the intake under the battery tray you will have to pull the wheel and inner fender liner out to get at it. It bolts to the wiper fluid tank. Just unbolt it and pull it out.

if were talking about the 2.2 OHV, the PCV valve is on the left rear side of the valve cover., i believe it connects to the intake manifold, so that is not something you need to worry about.

If however your intake has a nipple or two for such a hose(s), you can either put Vaccume caps at the end, or just put 1 hose between the two.

I got the inner fender off and unscrewed the airbox from the fluid tank but it would not come out it was like it was stuck.
