I was just wondering what you guys think, should i sell my 1996 cavalier 2.2 and buy somthing faster or just keep it and mod it. I find myself wanting more speed and id also like a black car so that would also be costly, so what do you guys think? Im kinda shootin for a car with 160-180 horsepower.
Having a black car isn't costly. As a matter of fact, having a black car is a pain in the ass. Scratches, dirt, swirls, etc all appear noticably. i almost wish my 05 wasn't black.
If you are shooting for only 160-180, you could obtain that with your Cavy. Intake, exhaust, header, TB, pulley, engine/trans mounts. You should easily be able to hit that range with those.
You also have to look at it this way . . . The faster you want a car, the more it will cost. If you want your cavy fast, you'll have to spend a decent amount. If you want to sell and go straight for a fast car, same thing. Faster cars will cost more, and will hit you depending on your age with insurance.
Hum, you want 180hp and a black car? find a 90-92 Gtz 5 speeds. You will have over 200hp with just the exhaust and header.
Insurance will be cheaper than your cavy and the car will be faster. Handle alot better.

Actually his post says he has a 2.2 Cavalier. those cars stock 115 hp. It would take a lot more than a decent amount of money to boost up to 160. I say just go for a Z24. They stock about 150 hp from the factory but once you drive one 150 hp is more than you bargain for.

It's really up to you but it'll take alot more work to reach 180 HP with your 2.2 OHV. By the way, you have side feed injectors so that makes it a bit harder to put some real power with fuel.
I'd say invest in an ECOTEC if you want to stay in the Jbody Platform and you can mod it from there with more potential and aftermarket support or look into another vehicle.

^^^agreeing w/ NJHK, either keep your car and turn it into what you want, or sell/trade it in on something you want.either way money WILL be spent.in my opinion i'd shoot for a black z24 or eco and slap on a few goodies.you can get extra power outta yer OHV but not as much as the z and echo crowd for the same cost and effort
People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......
sell the cav and buy something else....but do not trade it in.....I only got $800 for my car (97 coupe 2.2 ohv)

If I could do it over again I would not mod it and drive it until you could afford something to put money into. But thats my opinion I guess.

Yup...another example of our cars not holding any type of price value.

That's how it should always be. Like myself, I know I can afford to modify my car and make my car notes at the same time so I know that I will pay off my car and not have it repoed anytime soon or at all.
