I've been looking into jbodies lately, and as a poor college student, I am really attracted to their economy. My girlfriend has a 2004 Cavalier Coupe and I enjoy it quite a bit. I know a little about the Ecotec engine, but my knowledge is severly limited on the 2.2 available in the older models. Were there any quirks with this engine? Does it age well? (by that I mean to ask what the average life is) I have been looking at the pre-Ecotec Cavaliers strictly because they fit my price range a bit better. Thanks!

the average life of any engine 2.2 or not is practically endless if you take care of it it's like anything else treat it right and it will last you a lifetime ignore it and you'll be walking in 5 minutes
keep in mind, you can always throw and ecotec in when you have the funds!

its all about treating your cars right as ^^^ said
The ECOTEC motor is a very well engineered motor and from what I've seen so far can handle plenty of power and mileage on top of it.
