ok one of my friends mentioned something about being able to buy a small SC from a junk yard and simply mounting it so it spins along with our belt, might be necessary to take out the AC compressor and simply put it there. anyway, this got me thinking, it is very possible tohave some custom made pipes welded on to the SC and then going directly to the TB. of course, the SC need some sort of CAI or filter, which would also be custom mounted. ok so my question is the following, I know it is physically possible to mount it, but would this work at all? or is this just the stupidest idea ever? now i dont know jack about boost, hence why im asking this in the noob section, any help is appreciateed
oh yea, heres the SC my friend said would fit most cars, since its small.
No offense but your friend is very silly and wears silly pants.
There is no such thing as a "universal" supercharger. First of all, not every car has the same mounting points. The point of a roots style supercharger is to properly sit on a motor, basically straight up with it. Remember, the supercharger has to have a belt that is being run off the crank pulley so it can't be sideways or any other position but straight up. If it doesn't mount up properly, than you're pretty much screwed. Also, even if you tried to make up some meraculous adapter, hood clearance plays a big part of it.
Second, not every car uses the same rib belt...
Third, the whole idea of using piping and such and such to route it, that would be a good idea if it was a centrifigual supercharger or a turbocharger but of course it goes back to my original statement of how it has to be placed above the motor and also hood clearance.
Now if you are seriously interested in supercharging your ECOTEC, all you would need to do is find an Cobalt SS or Ion Redline in a junk yard and use that supercharger because it would use the same mounting points on your motor as it does the 2.0 ECOTEC motors. It's a direct fit and direct swap, the only difference is in the belt (I believe the 2.0s use a 6 ribbed belt, you would need to cut 1 rib of the belt). Look up member Airtronics.

It is possible to get that to work, on the side of an engine, but the ammount of fabrication involved would exceed amy benifts you may get.
The pulley is not an issue, You get get a wide varienty of ribbed / nonribbed belts for it and of different ratios.
If you try to mount it sideways, your gonna need a new mounting pointm and all the ducting on BOTH sides, as well as another pulley to get your new belt to hold tension around its new routing.
Fact and down-to-dirt about that...:
It WILL cost you MORE than the price of a very nice turbo system, RSM Vortech S/C, or GM S/C system to get that to work on your car. There is more than just ducting the air from the S/C on a roots system than just piping. The throttle body on those systems is before the s/c, not after, so you would have to modify the intake manifold to attach to that. Not to mention the custom brackets, getting around the exhaust manifold, and routing the belt.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
thanks for the responses people

the sad part is that I have a ghey 2200, so no SC for me.
im not really into going fast, but i figured id ask this just in case it did work and i could get more speed for cheap, but i guess not. I already have practically every bolt on available, so i guess ill just stay where im at.
thanks either way

Yea...good luck with that.

First mistake right there. Performance never comes cheap. You want big power, you gotta invest big money.

Horses have always been expensive. Theres no such thing as cheep power.
