Getting a new car...need advice
Monday, January 30, 2006 5:24 AM
Greetings to all!

I am a newbie so if this question has been asked before
please don't flame me I tried a search but, didn't
find the answers I was looking for..

Anyway, on with my story.. I have been living over seas
for a long time but, will be moving back to America, soon
and will be in the market for getting a car.

I did a lot of searching on the net trying to figure out
what type of vehicle would be best and suit my needs. I
really like the look of the Cavalier Z24 and the Sunfire.

Since I am still in school gas mileage and insurance are
very important to me. I think these cars are very sporty
and would appreciate any knowledge of what to look for in
a used Cavalier or Sunfire?

What is the difference in the Z24 vs. a regular Cavalier??

Thanks for all the help.

z24 from 95-2002 have 2.4 litres, sunfire gt has 2.4l engine also
lots more power...around same gas mileage, diff worth going z24 or gt
also more interior options.
normal cavs and sunfires have only 2.2 ohv .....SLOW
but 2003 and up gt or z24 is no diff from base model

my opinion if you have the means to get a newer cavi you cant really go wrong with an ecotec, it is the same engine in all models(2003+)
if you are looking for something older / or just like the looks better of a 01-02 Z24 i have had no problems with the 2.4L engine so far.. plus i got 33mpg highway last week and thats with the supercharger!

if you want to let us know around the price range youll be looking at it could help us more

Agreed.

The ECOTEC is a very well designed motor and very reliable. Can take a beating and can also get you from point A to B with no issues. You can find ECOTEC equipped vehicles very cheap now and days...a 2003 with some miles can run you around $5000 so thank your stars that we hold no price value on our cars LOL

Thanks guys for the info

I would like to get a older model maybe, a 97-99 with low miles.
Just want something a little sporty to get me from point A to B.

I won't say that I have no plans to mod it...as I know I will

I will probably do something with the exterior and appearence...
wheels and rims first..small drop and a spoiler. Nice and clean
thats me.

On some vehicles here I noticed a hood with a scoop? Can you
purchase this somewhere? or is that a custom job?

I think I will like these cars, I used to have a Contour SVT and it
had 190 hp stock before I started doing things to it. I had the cold
air induction..bla bla etc.. If I do anything to the Cavalier it would
have to be a small turbo setup...but will need to wait and see how
the funds go while I am in school.

Thanks again eveyone for the answers.

there a a bunch of places that make hoods for our cars. fiberglass and carbon fiber. id just spend some time in the photos and media forum and if you see one you like ask questions. just a work of advice DO NOT GO WITH A CHEAP HOOD! i did and the quality is really bad. it has so much fiberglass on it to try to get the waves out it ways about what the stock hood does.. if you want to see it tho check my profile i believe theres a pic of it..
