Does anyone know a safe horse power range on an automatic transmission
i heard from somewhere it was bout 300 hp but i'm not sure .. i have a 2200 4 speed auto and i am debating whether or not to buy the j tuners turbo kit.. it says just the basic kit without inercooler at 4.6 psi is getting them 180 horespower..
Anything over 200whp will start to give it problems with slipping. The autotrans interceptor will help out a little.

Out of a 2.2? I highly doubt that. Maybe and a big maybe at the crank, well depending on other mods.

they have parts out there to fortify the motor
but strangely enough, not much to fortify the trans

Agreed.

He just means transmission wise, not trying to be motor specific. I know Aaron from Turbo Tech Racing ran 320+ whp on a stock transmission (4T40E).
lowgreenman, if you were to ever reach 200+ whp, my suggestion is to just put a transmission cooler on for insurance. Transmission going is usually due to extreme heat and not to actual parts going bad...if they go bad, it's because of heat issues. The 4T40E transmission is very strong and durable though...don't believe the hype. Most people don't modify automatics though because they can't shift the gears by themselves and stock for stock are slower than manuals but throw some boost on them and them suckers handle it wonderfully and you'll stay in full boost in between gears (that's another story though...you can ask Shifted all about that).

I was talking about 180 fwhp out of a 2200 with 4psi of boost.

you do know they mean 180hp total not a 180hp added to your 115

qualife
yes i knwo its 180 totall .. and thats still good for me .. if i want more later i will build up the motor more .. right now i'm thinking about just buying the basic turbo kit and set it at 5 psi and get a tranny cooler.. and buy the inercooler later on down the road .. thats my plans anyway ..

If you're planning on running a turbo setup, do it right the first time. I don't care if you're running 2 PSI, you're blowing hot exhaust back into your motor, if you don't cool it down, that could lead to heat soaking and cause internal problems.
So I repeat, DO NOT RUN A TURBO SETUP WITHOUT AN INTERCOOLER!
Everything else like the tranny cooler...sounds like a wonderful idea (which is actually what I'm doing).
