I am looking for a good book to read to learn more about cars. I know a small amount, but i want to know so much more. I have so many plans for my car, but i want to know what im doing and why. I dont just want to take it to a shop, have something installed just because someone said i should, and tell people, "yeah, i have so and so on my car" and not even know what i have much less what it does. Basically, i want an all around book that explains everything from the simplest stuff, all the way to advanced.
I would say you could learn a lot just by reading here. But you would also have to
sift through all the bull@!#$ first. Try reading all the FAQ's at the top of each Forum.

the problem with info you learn off the web (especially sites like this, all memeber based, alot of opinions, no requirements to post) is alot of the info is flat out wrong, alot of people that think they know what they are talking about but dont. My honest opinion.... spend alot of time on howstuffworks.com or whatever it is, they have alot of good info on things like this. Beyond that maybe take a general not to specific or indepth auto class at a local community college.
i like the class idea, i want to be a mechanic anyways. howstuffworks is a great website, thanks for the info

Ryan is sort of right. There are people who just relay info and there are some people who know is fact...sometimes hard to tell what is true and what isn't but I still say this site is reliable with information. What you have to do is skim out the people who aren't full of it and know their stuff. I have friends for topics that I need help with...I know if I have a turbo question I can ask 4-5 reliable friends about it and they can answer my questions with no problems. That's what you gotta do.
Heck, if you have any questions, you can hit me up on AIM/AOL screen name NJHKJBO.

Go to the Library, If you want to know something on a specific car or just cars in general there should be books on both.
