The SE letters.

There really is no difference, maybe some options, but in 2003 and up pretty much all the same, other than some interior options. You may have a slightly different suspension though...

there's two models, the SE and the GT. the SE is the base model, not many bells and whistles. the GT is the one with the goodies.

in other words, the previous owner of his car ordered it with all the options when they bought it brand new (power windows, power locks, cd player, etc) but kept the 2.2l engine instead of the 2.4l engine.

..............

he said his is a 2003, 03+ sunfires are all SEs, none have badging for it though

everything is pretty much an option in the cars too, air conditioning, fog lights, rear defogger, and the boomerang(spoiler) was standard though

Any idea what the Xtreme III means? Whether it's the options, or anything? Not expecting it to be much, but would be nice to know.

Yours is an SE because it's your car and your initials are S.E. . I'm sorry I couldn't resist, I'm (very) easily amused .

SE was everything that wasn't a GT, from 95-02. At least in the USA that is. (we had SL's and GT's in Canada 03-05)

You could get a bare-bones, stripped, no options SE. Or you could get a fully loaded SE with the 2.4L engine and power everything. But it still looked like a regular SE, because it wasn't a GT.

I guess the main difference is the exterior... because you could get a GT with no power options as well.

Oh, and the sticker price. I'm willing to bet the "GT" designation added a few $$$ to the price regardless of the other options.

I actually looked into this after I wrote off my first GT. I considered getting the loaded SE instead to save some money but it turned out that the price difference was pretty negligable. If you were going to load it up, it just didn't make any sense to get the SE and there were a few things not available.

I think the price difference came down to less than $500 between the two. SE coupe didn't have available leather appointments (wheel/brake handle/shift knob), tilt steering, driver's side lumbar support and you get the crappy rear axle without the stabilizer bar.

The exterior things like the 16's and the fog lights alone would have made it worth the extra few bucks, but with everything together as I said, it just didn't make any sense to get the SE as a cost-saving effort.

No. Some dealers would make up trim packages and put on the iron-on logos. Some were actually kinda cool, but they weren't embroidered. That would have cost too much.

Good to know about the price difference... I didn't compare the base Cavalier to the Z24.. given that I've changed everything on this car... maybe I should have... ah well.

i have a 2001 SE and its fully loaded with pw, pl, keyless entry, alarm, cruise, cd player, traction controlle. 4 speed auto, sunroof, and the 15 inch wheels. how do u no if you got the crappy axle. what should the good one look like i would like to no if i have the good one with the stabilizer bar whats it look like.

Traction control isn't an option. All 3rd gens with the 4-speed auto tranny have TC. Maybe even all the 3 speeds, though I'm not sure on that.

Anyhow, if you look at your rear axle, you'll see that across the car it's a big inverted V shaped piece of steel. If in the middle of that V at the point there's a steel bar around half an inch thick or so, then you've got the "sport" suspension. If that's the case, then you've probably got the front sway bar as well.

couldnt you also look on the spare tire cover and see if it says FE0 FE1 FE2 ?

FE0 = no rear bar, no front bar
FE1 = 15mm front bar and no rear
FE2 = 22mm front bar and a rear "stabalizer bar"

I am sure those are how its run down, i may be a little off.

Most of the strut bars do fit, but if you havnt done a intake mod yet, your bar might rest on some 2nd gen and most 3rd gen stock intakes, i have ram air, so i actually had to mod my hood aswell..not really worth it for a 75 dollar part but i was determined to add it on. also check the suspension faq they tell you which ones fit on which.

The only difference with an se and a gt in 2003 and up sunfires are insurance rates.
Same engines, same ponies under the hood just decals and cheap dual tip mufler.

This is because the GT was nothing but a badge that GM Canada slapped on to designate a set of options. In 03, the GT was eliminated along with the sedan in the US and all the GT goodies just became options. So you could still get things like the FE2 suspension and dual exhaust. It just wasn't called a GT anymore.

In Canada, they chose a bunch of options (curiously not including the 15" chrome wheels) and made that their GT. Now since GM had gone and redesigned the side skirts to have Sunfire embossed in them instead of using a badge, rather than do something that would actually look good and make sense, GM Canada just slapped the previous years GT badge on the side, all by it's lonesome, and called it a day.

Totally ghetto.
