Holy smokes!
Monday, November 28, 2005 8:43 AM
I didn't know I joined on November 14th, 2001! I better get more involved with j-bodies! I've been spending so much time and money on computers and work that my sad little 1999 sunfire is falling appart!

Anyone have some really good ideas for me to alter my near stock 1999 Sunfire 2.2L 2DR for about $500-$600? (at least till next payday then maybe $2,200)

Peace out, a-town...do do dodo...dodo do do YEAH

it depends, what do you wanna do w/ it? you have to figure out which way you wanna go w/ it. you want performance, handling, looks, etc...?

I need some good deals on maybe better seats...I have blackcat custom gauges already, but my stock seats look gross.

I dunno, is it really worth me investing this late in the game or should I keep the cash and go with something newer?

The reason why I love my Sunfire so much is 2 fold:

1. Centimental (sound out) value
2. Light curb weight

I'd like to do some little mods to the interior but also engine/exhaust, however I'm afraid if I invest say $5,000 in the next month maybe it's just a waist? I could take that $5,000 sell my car for about $6,000 (canadian) and buy something new or different? Whats everyone elses take?

If you want it for the sentimental value then dont get rid of it.

There is a GP here for yonaka racing seats 50-58% off.

99 sunfire...depending on condition/mileage/options you'd be lucky to get between 3-4 thousand USD.

really? here they've been selling on average between about $4800-$6000 CND depending on milage and wear...I'm talking private sales not car lot.

But I think you're right, I might just invest some money to kinda bring it back to life but no go overboard. I could probably find a fully modded car around $8000 or so hey?

maybe its just me but i would never buy a fully modded car off another person

oh? why not? in danger of the person not having the mods done right?

1) i dont like the fact of just buyin' something instead of building it (not theres anything wrong w/ that, its just a personal preference)
2) depending on the mods (ie turbo's or s/c) theres no telling how hard they beat on the car. if they tell you they didnt beat on it once, thats

modded car = owner beat on the car. it's a pretty safe way of looking at it.

i wouldn't buy a car off someone young, either...there's a good chance they beat on it or got into at least one accident with it. carfax only goes so far.

well, you are buying someone elses creation. someone else put the time and effort into the car, not you. get it?

yep. i used to beat the crap out of my 1983 celica gt. it was completely stock and slow as piss...i beat on it, i off roaded it...i had fun in it. i'll buy a 10 year old car off an older person before i'll buy a brand new car from a young person.

btw, here's a link to what kelly blue book rates a 1999 pontiace sunfire coupe. i didn't know all your options so i just left it as a base model. i did 15k miles a year to come up with around 80k on the car. blue book is for private part. again, thats southern cali. no idea what that would figure out to be in canada.

$3,230

crap, just previewed and it wants you to reput your info...either way, you can do it.

I wasn't much differnt from what you got, after putting in my details for my model, and leaving the zip code as default mine came to:

$3,770 USD

or

$4,400 Canadian

which is relatively close to what I was saying earler of $4800-$6000 CND as price range. I know there is no shortage of them but they seem to be selling in a pretty high price bracket in Western Canada (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia). Provided it's in decent shape and you've done some adding like I invested a large amount in audio and stereo, I'm pretty confident I could get about $5,000-$5,500 canadian right now.

thanks for that site, was interesting to see what it would come up with.
